Cheap SBB (CFF) tickets

I don't know if this is useful to anyone but the SBB seem to have quite a few reduced price tickets available on their website:
https://www.sbb.ch/mct/wi/shop/b2c/a...kelnummer=4004

They only seem to be available for big stations and you do have to catch a specific train but apart from that they are ok.

For example I needed to spend a couple of hours in Basel (from Zurich). Normal price is CHF 31.- (to Basel and back) but managed to find 2 convenient trains for CHF 19.60. That's more than one third of the price saved.

Using the tickets is quite easy you just send an MMS to your mobile (from the SBB website) and then the ticket inspector just scans the sort of bar code on your phone (I think there is also an option for printing the tickets out as PDFs).

This is really thoughtful of you! Thanks so much, super helpful. I always forget to look on their website and just go straight to the ticket machine just assuming my Halbtax will save me.

Re: Cheap SBB (CFF) tickets

Another thing to consider when trying to save money is that

DAYPASS = 64 CHF
DAYPASS after 9am = 54 CHF

So if you're making a long-distance return journey within the same day, choose these options instead. The machines don't tell you about this and you end up paying more, as I have recently.

I think that when the price exceeds CHF 64.- a link to the daypass does appear at the bottom of the ticket-machine's screen but if you don't know about it then you wouldn't think of clicking on it.

I didn't know about the "DAYPASS after 9am", thanks for the information.

Re: 3rd wave of the SBB Supersaver promotions in a few days

11 days left for the current promotion! Supersaver tickets can be purchased a maximum of 14 days in advance.

Booking / Testing link

I've used Lenzburg as an example ( there is a buffet in the evening of 11.02 - link - none in the evening for ex- Basel ).

Re: 3rd wave of the SBB Supersaver promotions in a few days

Sounds like a good idea - where before the 23rd of February ? Care to organise one ?

Too bad SBB ( unlike TGV Europe and DBahn ) does not have such deals to neighbouring countries, for example to the Alsace region, which I hear is a lovely place with 180 degrees of clear blue skies I am reliably told

Re: 3rd wave of the SBB Supersaver promotions in a few days

The SuperSaver tickets are for within CH. Crossborder deals involving a Swiss station - best to look at Bahn.DE or www.tgv-europe.com - for best deals, one needs to look at about 60 - 90 days in advance.

If you have a spare day, get a Tageskarte from your commune and explore the French and Italian speaking parts of CH on high speed trains, PostBus, cruise over Lake Geneva etc.

Sure you can leave. You have your Passport... The permit just allows you to live and work here...
Once in Schengen area, you can travel no problem... No ???

Re: 3rd wave of the SBB Supersaver promotions in a few days

Why is SBB making some much promotions all at the same time? The sales are not good I guess? May be we can face a total reduction in ticket prices in general?

Re: 3rd wave of the SBB Supersaver promotions in a few days

Only 7 days to go for your SuperSaver / Sparbillette tickets folks.

During rush season ( Easter hols for example ), best to obtain a seat reservation ( CHF3 ) or risk standing throughout the journey.

Re: 3rd wave of the SBB Supersaver promotions in a few days

Just a gentle reminder about the start of this promotion - Wed 20th April.

You might find a cheap ticket from your town to eg a border station like Basel, and use your Basel ( DE ) Europa-Spezial or City Night Line CNL to Praha, CZ Rep. one way for EUR29.25 ( available from DB site www.bahn.de / http://www.bahn.de/p/view/angebot/in...chechien.shtml )

Re: 3rd wave of the SBB Supersaver promotions in a few days

Basel too expensive / far ?

Try SuperSaver tickets Schaffhausen ( CH ) to Paris or Konstanz ( CH and DE station ) to Copenhagen ( overseas routes far cheaper on DB - getting two singles might be cheaper than return tickets ).

Romandie - try Geneva to Munich.

or Interlaken Ost to Salzburg.

Konstanz has a "two-in-one" railway station: It hosts services (like ticket counters) for both Deutsche Bahn (DB) and Swiss Federal Railways (SBB).

Note: Indicated prices take into consideration of the BahnCard 25 ( CH Halbtax card is the equivalent ), and are slightly higher without.

Re: 3rd wave of the SBB Supersaver promotions in a few days

Unfortunately SBB is pretty useless in selling attractively priced tickets for international routes, hence why I prefer DB, TGV etc. and SBB only for domestic travel.

Dear Mr.xxxxxxxxx

Thank you for your query. (n° CC3976717)

We are pleased to offer you the following quote:

Total price for your journey (return trip, 1st class) for 1 person: CHF 519.00

Tickets:
1 person:
CHF 378.00 / London - Edinbourgh - London
CHF 141.00 / Edinbourgh - Wick - Edinbourgh

Information:
» This offer is only applicable, if seats in the stated tariffs are available at the time of booking.

It has just started! It ends on 20th August 2011 for the last date of travel on 03.09.2011 as per this page. It is an online print-at-home ticket for a specific train and route up to 14 days in advance. Some reductions apply to Halbtax holders, but not 50%! All details in the linked page.

Supersaver tickets are available between the stations marked blue on the map.
