Buying a car: Independent Car Check

Hi all,

I'm looking at buying a classic car here in Switzerland, and would like to know if there's any known services, like the AA offer in Britain, that independently verify the condition of the car? or can anyone recommend someone in the Zurich area to do this?

Thanks,

Stephen

Try the used car test offered by TCS (Touring Club Schweiz):

Re: Buying a car: Independent Car Check

For oldtimers there is a expert list provided by the "automobilverband". Some guys are specialised in estimation on the cars value and how well the restauration and repairs is done.

Here the contact details of an expert:
www.ibb-autoexpertisen.ch
I think he is an expert in estimating oldtimers. There are many experts around.

Maybe tcs provides this service much cheaper.

If I hire TCS to check out a used car that I'm considering buying, I assume that I need to bring the car to TCS, correct? If so, what kind of assurance do I need to give to the car dealer to let me take their car off the lot for this?

As long as the car is driven using the "Garagennummer" (dealership's license plate), it's insured under their plan. You don't (and can't) provide insurance for a car that you don't own.
If the dealership has nothing to hide and the car is legit, they'll gladly let you take it to the nearest TCS testing center for an inspection.

I had no problem taking the car I was looking at out for the afternoon, with dealer plates. If you tell them you want the TCS check it should be no problem at all. If they refuse, well... tells you something about that car!
