| | Car Parts from the UK
So, I need new brakes on my Subaru and I checked with the local garages and they want 1800+ CHF in parts which needless to say is a ridiculous amount. I checked in the UK and found them for 450 CHF (same exact parts) and 38 GBP shipping.
Question is, am I going to run into some weird swiss law about using parts from outside of Switzerland or did I just save myself 1400 CHF?

should be fine, but you will pay import. Also they need to be approved by Subaru, otherwise you will not pass inspection.
In any case I am doing the same as you. 2k for brake parts (In france 400)....

Maybe it will be cheaper to drive to France and get it done there completely?

It is a fantastic place, and a spectacular place to drive, however, it is increasingly full of idiots with no idea what they are doing and little respect for other drivers.

don't go on weekends and its fine, if you pick one of the evenings during the week the place is almost dead. you can tell whose going to slam it into the barriers by just watching them in the car park.
don't take a stopwatch, take your time, look in your mirrors and treat every corner as if it was a hairpin and you'll be fine.

I did the same last year and ordered new discs and pads from the OEM so that there was no swiss homologation problems with non-standard parts. I picked them up when I was in England on a motorcycle trip but wished I had sent them by DHL or the like as they were quite heavy and hard to strap to the back of the bike. Anyhow, the costs of the import tax and delivery costs are fairly cheap so I think you have the best solution.
These days, I usually order parts to a friend or family member who will be visiting me and then ask them to bring over for me. Of course, the person bringing me the part SHOULD declare the import tax at the border........ | This user would like to thank for this useful post: | |

I do a car trip to the UK once or twice a year & always have it serviced or bits replaced if nessasary when I'm there, having been robbed here to the tune of 2000 chf for an 80,000km service & cam belt change 3 yrs ago.

I plan on going during the week but I will rent a 911 GT3 if I can find one for some fun laps!!! | Quote: | | | | | Good idea. Apparently they can get pad and rotor thickness measurements even with limited access. I'm wondering if they would even catch a non-homologated part like this.

Just compare the OEM parts against some of the Turkish/Chinese copies for weight and quality.

Under no circumstances turn into a corner on the brakes - you won't know where it goes - what camber or gradient change you have - and also whether someone is bouncing across the track in front of you.
I have seen way too many crashes at the Ring - probably more than I have seen when racing. However I agree with Rich, if you do go - pick a weekday evening - and take it easy. It isn't the same as the Playstation
