Help needed in getting my Vespa 1964 registered

hi, I need some help in getting my 1964 Vespa registered.
I made an appointment with the Strassenverkehrsamt for next Friday, however I also need to get an initial inspection done - to validate cm,kW,kmh etc.. The location that advised to do this check is based in Lupfig - approx 45mins from Zurich. Does anyone know if i have to use this place or can i use another in Zurich - and if so do you have a contact of a local Zurich place..

thanks in advance
Steve

No idea what you should do in Lupfig. Have you got the Vespa's last registration document (Fahrzeugausweis)? If yes, take it to an insurance company and ask for a "Versicherungsnachweis" (certificate of insurance). With these two documents you register the Vespa for MFK (vehicle inspection). You can choose between MFK centres Zürich, Winterthur and Regensdorf. If you wish to register the Vespa as a vintage vehicle is has to be in standard trim, in a condition "worth of a collection". However, max. yearly mileage is restricted to 3000 km.

If you haven't got the Vespa's registration document, you better know the name of the last (Swiss) owner and/or the number and canton of the last license plate. The Strassenverkehrsamt can give you a copy you take to the insurance for the "Versicherungsnachweis".
Good luck! Is it a racy GS 175?

Re: Help needed in getting my Vespa 1964 registered

I need to take my 2004 vespa to be inspected. How pedantic are they? I've had the vespa serviced and the service man seems to think they will want a new exhaust as the one on the vespa is not original and perhaps a new headlight as it's dipping to wrong side of road for Zurich. It was previously rode in the UK. I don't know why if it was roadworthy for the UK, it won't be here... Has anyone had any experience registering a vespa/bike here in Switzerland. If so, would love to hear from you!

Re: Help needed in getting my Vespa 1964 registered

Hi, I recently registered my 1966 lambretta from the UK. I only did this because a) axa told me they could not insure it on uk plates (WRONG - Zurich insurance will do this) and b) I was nearing my 12 month expiry post bringing it in.

I used a local 'bike' shop to undertake the process which cost me an (Exorbitatant) 500 swissies..(welcome to switzerland). It sailed through the MFK albeit..they had to add a vin plate (despite it never having one originally) and I have the embarrassment of an 75kph sticker on the back, limiting my use to non motorway...but this has spookily now removed itself

I was nervous of the process as I am told only bog standard bikes get through - mine looks stock but has a non std exhaust (big bore but original looking), carb and air filter (Foam vs box) but this amazingly didn't seem to matter..

Hope this helps..feel free to send PM if I can of anymore help..there is a well kitted out vespa dealer in Reinach (near basel) who specialise in all things Vespa and may be able to help, but they only speak Swiss/German..http://www.rollerzentrale.ch/

Re: Help needed in getting my Vespa 1964 registered

I noticed in your post that you said that Zurich would insure your Lambretta even though you had british plates....
I watched a programme last week about a guy travelling from France into Britain in a car with british plates, but french insurance. He was stopped by the police (I can't remember what for...nothing too drastic though) and when he produced his insurance the policeman said it was invalid and impounded the car
