Returning My Half Fare Card for a Refund ( Halbtax )

When I arrived at CH for the first time on Monday, I purchased an annual Half Fare card but I didn't know that I could have an annual Mobilis pass with half prices for students.

As far as I understand, after I buy the annual Mobilis abonement for juniors, I won't need to use the HF card, right? Then, is there a way to return my annual HF card and get my money back?

Your help is appreciated. Merci!

Why not pop over to the train station and ask. They will know best.

My Halbtax's remaining validity had cash value that was transferred when upgrading to a GA.

I was able to upgrade too! however if your still a student then just upgrade or exchange to a "Gliese 7" you can travel anywhere in CH for free after 7pm everyday! it's a great addition to the Mobilis abonement

Re: Returning My Half Fare Card for a Refund ( Halbtax )

When my sister came to visit years ago I bought her a Halb Tax as she was staying for a month.
At the end of the month we said she was leaving Switzerland and we got a refund back.
Not the full amount, but it was worth it to go to the train station and ask (as mentioned above).

Thanks for all the replies.

I have a question since I am new to Switzerland. When I have the Annual Mobilis Card, I don't have to pay for any transportation in CH, including the trains, right? If yes, isn't it meaningless to buy Gleis 7 because transportation at all times will be free?

The GA / AG gives you prepaid travel in CH ie barring some exceptions, all travel is free, not the Mobilis which is restricted in coverage.

I beg to differ. When we were living in Basel, and I got a job in Zürich I went to get a 1st class GA and had a 3 year halbtax with about 6 months left on it. They deducted the cost of the remaining months on the HT from the cost of the GA. Also in the same sketch (of interest to Basel residents) at the BVB shop on Barfüsserplatz I was able to trade in my TNW U-Abo which also had a few months left on it.

It may be you have to show a valid reason for wanting to trade in - e.g. you want to have a different ticket.

Cheers,
Nick

Re: Returning My Half Fare Card for a Refund ( Halbtax )

I just went to Zurich HB and tried to return my Halbtax, but the woman told me that I cannot do that. She said that you can only do it for the GA Abonnement.
