Please help!!!!I have to pass my theory test

Hey,

I really need your advice. I have to do the ch driving test. the whole procedure including theory.
I bought the cd with the questions and it also comes with a pocket book with the signs and all you need to know..things like priority e.t.c.
My question is for those who have done the same procedure,
when i go for my theory test, will the questions be identical to the ones on the cd? because if yes then that makes the whole issue easier since all I have to do is memorise
. Especially because i have to do all the tests in German.

Of course i do understand the basic rules and my husband explains to me all the time when we are on the road.

I would be shocked if the questions were identical but would deffinitely be interested to find out if anyone can provide a response to this query...

As I recall there is a whole raft of questions. There is a chance that you will get the same questions, but also that you won't. However if you have a good memory, then yes you could in principle learn/memorise every question (& answer, obviously).

Good luck.

Re: Please help!!!!I have to pass my theory test

I got the CD from http://www.fahrschultheorie.ch/ and the exam was very very similar to the questions I had tried. Some had different photos, but I remember thinking in the middle of the exam "It's the same question!!". I only got 3 wrong in the end! I did try all the questions on the CD, while on the bus, in between work, a couple more times at night. I failed most of the mock tests I tried before I worked on the questions (also on the CD) but by the last day I managed to pass the mock test. I guess I studied for a few days solid, and started reading the book "Driving Today" about 1.5 weeks prior to the exam. The CD was what helped me pass though.

It's a shame you can't do the test in English! Maybe register with the Zurich Strassenverkehrsamt instead?

Re: Please help!!!!I have to pass my theory test

In Zurich you can take the theory test in English. I think it's one of the few cities that allow this. The CD I mentioned also has all the questions in English.

Thanx Ctan,
our canton can't offer them in english. may be I should try Zürich.
I have really gone through all the theory on the book and all the questions on the cd. I thought they would be identical, at least my husband thought so.
Thanx people for the replies.

Re: Please help!!!!I have to pass my theory test

My boyfriend is going through the driver's license process in canton LU. I mentioned that Zurich offers the test in English and he said he cannot go to a different canton for the test. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks for the information, can you please explain the format of this theory exam (how many questions, time, pattern, passing marks etc).

Re: Please help!!!!I have to pass my theory test

To be honest, i don't remember the details of the exam anymore. If you get the CD, then they have mock exams so you will know the format and the required score. I think you're only allowed something like 7 mistakes? Do get the CD if you're planning to take the test, it will save you a lot of stress (its almost the same questions).

Re: Please help!!!!I have to pass my theory test

If i remember correctly (and I should since I only did it 6 weeks ago but that doesn't necessarily mean anything ) you have 50 questions and are allowed a total of 14 mistakes.

This is not to say that you can get 14 questions wrong but 14 mistakes!
Each question is multiple choice (4) and you must tick all the correct boxes (think maximum correct is 3, at least in my experience).
Any box you forget to tick = 1 mistake any box you tick which is infact wrong = 1 mistake so in theory you could get up to 4 mistakes per question.

The cd that I bought had the exact questions and images as the final test (excecpt some of images were animated with the "official still" picture beside it).

I did the practice "exam" over and over again over the course of three days and if I got one wrong I checked why etc. My level of french is decent enough but I still didn't understand everything so figured this was the easiest way

All the best and feel free to ask if you have any more questions.

EDIT: I think you have about 30 minutes to do the exam. I took on average about 12 minutes during the home test and a 20 or so on the actual test.

If you want to take the test in English, and you live in Basel, then you have to (or will have to) go to Zürich.

Re: Please help!!!!I have to pass my theory test

What happens when you're on the road and you encounter a situation that isn't exactly like what's covered on the test?

FWIW, that's not a crazy question. Many years ago, when I took my driver's exam, I missed a couple of questions because I didn't know the exact answer so I chose what I felt to be the safest (in terms of what you should do when out on the road) answer. Oddly, my answers were considered 'wrong' because they didn't match up with the 'exact' answer in the book. I asked the examiner about that and they said 'Yes, but that's the answer in the book'.

Easy. Drive defensively. If following the book means you die, then I'd rather stay alive and get a ticket!

I believe there is a special Swiss exception which automatically passes any female driver if they can prove (beyond a reasonable doubt) that: "my husband explains things to me all the time when we are on the road"
