Need help advice please putting an anhanger on the back of my new car.

My son is in a BMX club and i used to have a jeep to transport his bike, but now I have recently bought a new cabriolet and can no longer transport his BMX at the moment it can stay at the club, but starting next year he will be racing again so i need to transport his bike. The garage is asking nearly 3000frcs to put 1 on the back of my car, i have asked around and people have told me it will cost from around a few hundred frcs to 1000(this is including the anhanger), my question is can anyone on here put 1 on the back of my car please i am willing to pay, and of course you can stay for dinner and have a few beers.

Thanks

Re: Need help advice please putting an anhanger on the back of my new car.

Depending on the car will depend on the cost.

Once it is fitted you will need to take to the Strassenverkehrsamt (in Zurich this is is between 1120 and 1140 (I think)) each day.

They will inspect the installation and then update the ausweiss.

If I had tto do it again I would do it myself rather than get an expensive garage to do it.

Yes/No - depends on the car and depends on how difficult it is - and depends on whether I have a dry place in order to do it!!

I agree Chf 3k is rather a lot, i would maybe look around at an independant garage possibly, a little out of the big towns possibly.

If somebody does it for you and it's wrong, you have a load of nasty holes is your soft top and these will cost a lot more to fix that the price of a towbar !

Re: Need help advice please putting an anhanger on the back of my new car.

I'll have a look on Monday for parts and instructions - to see whether it is very difficult or not. Some mountings are harder to do.

The hardest part is the wiring - and it is the bit that paying for with a garage saves a lot of pain and hassle.

Depends on whether the car is fitted with a towing loom or not.

I am sure you know that in Switzerland an "Anhanger" has to have its own number plate & you pay a small annual tax - same as for the car.

They sell towbar kits for the ford focus on ebay Germany for about 350 euros; I would guess maximum of 1/2 day to fit unless there are big issues with the wiring.....

Ah - I do not think you are talking about getting a tow bar & trailer?

You are talking about fixing a Bike rack to your car?

They usually cost around 250/300 Francs new & I have no idea about fitting costs ...

Re: Need help advice please putting an anhanger on the back of my new car.

I must admit that I am also a bit confused as to whether you are wanting to tow a trailer or to have a tow bar fitted and then a bike rack on the tow bar.

If you are getting a bike rack to fit on the tow bar, i bought mine from Intersport in France for 50euros on which I can get 2 bikes and which fits on the ball of my tow bar.

You will have to take into consideration the depth of your bumper as to what size/ type of bike rack you can get, and the number plate set to hang off the back cost £30 from Halfords in the UK, Swiss number plate holder (plastic) 15chf from COOP.

Just some options to consider

That's a bit OTT isn't it?

Good, so do not bother looking for a towing wiring loom
