Saturday is fine with me as well. Could be at your place by say 1030, let it warm up a little bit. Can check tomorrow whats still open, or if anyone else has a good idea for a lowland ride.

How about something around Wattwil if we are looking for lowlands. Eg a loop like http://tinyurl.com/36msx8a which google says is 1 hr 20 (once we get to Wattwil).

Is it very accident prone or is it very slow to ride there ???

It is said that the three great emotions are sheer terror, a good dump and a orgasm, on the Splügen you can have all three at once.

That's not a great visual .....

To answer the question , it has really nasty tight switchbacks with funny camber that make it difficult to keep momentum going.

Added to that, I had nipped out for a quick ride and it turned out to be 300km longer that expected, so my patience was running thin. It was the final straw!

Re: Motorcycle Ride Out V:

Colin, that looks a nice little route, maybe extendable on the day. I suggest we do that one and see how the day progresses.

I'll plan to meet Matt at 1030(ish), and allowing time, be at Watwil for around 1130.
So
Looks as if weather is clearing, so okay for tomorrow. We have a route starting at Watwil and looping round, about 1 hour 30, depending on if we expand it as we go, or stop for coffee. Heads east towards St Gallen. Propose final meet-up point at Watwil, point A on the map link included (Wenkenrütistrasse junction with Rickenstrasse at 1130. http://tinyurl.com/36msx8a

If you are coming and may be a bit late, or need directions, call me on 079 949 4414 (can accept calls on bike)

Bob, sorry you can't make it.

Are there any more rides planned? I was hoping to get one more before this damn snow shows up. . .

Re: Motorcycle Ride Out V:

All depends on the weather, as some of us don't take the bikes off the road for winter, but have them at the ready, just in case. Keep an eye on the weather, we do sometimes get temp spikes in jan and feb for a day or two.

does winters in CH pose a serious threat to motorcycling ???

Even if accessories like heated grips, insulating jackets and gloves and winter tyres are available ?????

Does CH streets near the mountains and villages face black ice ???

Heh.

Heh.

Edit: I figured I should do more than just chuckle. Yes, winters pose a threat to motorcycling.

Actually, there's nothing wrong with biking in winter as long as you don't mind wearing enough layers to look like the Michelin man ;)

Having said that, I've had a small grip issue in 3" of snow once before and I do remember large snowflakes laying on my visor a few years ago on the A3 heading south from Zurich.

Winters pose a risk to bikers. Two wheels and slippy stuff ain't a good mix.

Thankfully, my biking season's 9-10 months now ;)

That would be me in spring and autumn ;).

Biking in winter in Switzerland, on occasion, ok. Biking in the ice and snow, no way Hose. Depends on what you straddle I suppose but the rex would have killed me and the bonnie is useless on anything slippy. Including horse sh!t as I found out last week.
