It's QANTAS. It's an acronym. It's short for "Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services".
What you are trying to say is that weejeem was wrong and it cannot possibly be an urban legend... but more a rural one?

Re: Best airline to the states?

We exclusively use Swiss or British Airways back & forth to the US...Too many very bad experiences on other airlines (Largely US airlines) has narrowed it down to these two...We love flying on either

BA will tend to stop in London which can be an issue for some which makes Swiss a bit easier for most...Service is as you'd expect

Re: Best airline to the states?

With kids to the West Coast? I would fly non-stop, if possible, regardless of airline. If you must switch planes, do it in Europe. I HAAATE going through security twice flying into the States and find it absolutely hellish with kids. Last time we transferred in Atlanta and my 11-year-old son said, "They really need a Swiss guy to come and organize this." We almost missed our connecting flight because of the total chaos of that security check. WHY is there another security check and luggage check after everyone has just disembarked from an international flight?

FWIW -- We've always had good luck with Lufthansa/Swiss, too.

Re: Best airline to the states?

Am going Swiss Economy to NYC on Friday - We are on one of their upgraded A330-300 or A300-330, whichever way around. The only real upgrades seem to be in 1st and Business though, so we probably won't see much benefit.

Their in flight entertainment looks great though, there at at least 9 hours of movie / TV I'd happily sit and watch, in both directions.

Re: Best airline to the states?

Worst airline experience by far, BA to NYC there and back absolutely awful, lost luggage, no inflight entertainment (broken both ways), booted off connecting flights at LHR when we got back, without apology and until I created, no compensation, even then the bare minimum. Dreadful, dreadful, dreadful. I'd rather swim.

Re: Best airline to the states?

Experience might differ as its been back and forth between Seattle and Geneva not Zurich:

BA is good but the transfer in LHR is a pain in the butt and they can be pricey

Swiss is good, not great, but consistently good

Lufthansa is very good but be careful sometimes the flight says lufthansa but its really operated by another airline

My friend just flew here with Continental through newark and was not pleased.

Nobody has mentioned air france.. just a few weeks ago my flight on another airline got cancelled and I rebooked in a pinch on air france and they gave me their "economy plus" or whatever they call it and it was GREAT. The best part, at least on the plane I was on, is that the seats in front of you don't actually recline so that gives you way more space. Instead when you recline your seat you just give up your leg room (not an issue because they even had leg rests). By far it was the best upgraded economy I've flown. The regular economy just seemed... regular.

Re: Best airline to the states?

another reason to avoid passing through Heathrow is the eye-watering taxes they dump on you.

Be careful passing through France as the buggers go on strike more frequently than some people change their underwear - I made it though some years ago but baggage handlers were on strike.....and 3 days later, my bag finally caught up with me.

Air France has most excellent food though, better than Swiss business class in my humble opinion
