Travel on Easter Weekend

Seems to be that everything is closed on Good Friday, Saturday, Easter Sunday and sometimes even Monday in Europe. Are there any places you could recommend to visit Easter Weekend that would not all be closed down....in Switzerland or another country?

Thanks!

How about Greece? I went there for my first Easter in Europe, and discovered that Easter was one week later there (Orthodox) I had a lovely time in Athens and Santorini; Or check out for the other countries that also don't celebrate Easter at the same time as here.

Re: Travel on Easter Weekend

Although the shops are closed, Easter marks the start of the season for a lot of "summer" tourist attractions. Especially this year with Easter being so late, there is a reasonable chance of good weather (I hope I don't jinx it by saying that), so perhaps outdoor activities are a good option ? Boat trips on lakes, open-air museums, that kind of thing maybe ?

Re: Travel on Easter Weekend

I guess a lot depends on what you like to do, enjoy, etc.?

Never had a problem over the long 4 day weekend either here or nearby, as all the tourist, vacation, family oriented places are open and available. One year did skiing (early easter), another hiking & discovering the nearly Black Forest, a weekend in Legoland Deutschland, another in Ticino with boat rides and various child friendly excursions, and another in Luzern, many museums and other activities.

If shopping is really your thing, think about an easy jet trip to London or similar.

On Good Friday most everything will be closed in Protestant countries/areas (Zurich for example), but not in Catholic areas (Ticino, for example).
Saturday is a normal Saturday - shops etc. are open
Easter Sunday - well, speaks for itself
Easter Monday - everything will be closed

Like Runnigdeer said, touristy things will be open, because it does mark the beginning of the tourist season.
