I am wondering about going to Interlaken for an overnight trip when my Mum comes to visit. We were planning on going to Lucerne for a few hours, then on to Interlaken. The problem I am running into is where to stay, and what to do the next day IN Interlaken. I remember loving it there, however last time I went I was backpacking and stayed at Funny Farm, and was less interested in activities, and more interested in the bar, ect This time I am going to have my Mum, and also my little girl. So I am not interested in staying at a hostel, but something nice and cozy. Doesn't have to be fancy. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Looked at going to Lugano, or St. Moritz but it seems kind of snobby... lol. If you have better suggestions for an overnight trip, please share! Thanks, hope you all had a nice weekend.

Instead of staying in Interlaken you could try staying in Grindelwald or Wengen - very Swiss and chalet style and not so busy like Interlaken.

Lugano is also really worth a visit and I don't think it is a snobby like St.Moritz especially if you go to Gandria and Campione di Italia etc...

It does not sound like you were planning on staying in Luzern but in case you do the hotel Wilden Mann is a great little hotel near the Chapel Bridge. Really quirky and old and lovely staff

If you are travelling on a budget, I wouldn't rule out the hostels. They have some nice family rooms as well. Backpackers Villa is just a few minutes walk from the town centre. Balmers is a little further but on the bus route. I stayed at Balmers a while back.

Interlaken is a great base for sightseeing. There are endless attractions in easy reach to suit all tastes.

Apparently the view is amazing. I cant confirm though because when i went there it was foggy.

There is also a place where you can get in a mountain and see waterfalls. No idea how its called though but it was very nice

I think you mean the Trümmelbach Falls , and yes it is very nice there.

I think trummelbachfalle is closed in the winter. it is amazing though when the snow is melting

When traveling between Luzern and Interlaken make sure you take the first part of the Golden Pass train route if your traveling by train. Although the second half beyond Interlaken is possibly a bit nicer it is definitely still worth any extra time this route might take rather than taking any quicker route without the views.

You can't go wrong with Murren or Wengen. Both are up in the mountains and absolutely beautiful. We went to Murren with an elderly lady and did a short hike and she had no problem at all.
If money is no object you should definitely see the Jungfrau Joch.
Be prepared to spend quite a lot of time in cable cars and trains if you want to stay in Interlaken and get up in the mountains.
