Geneva Chocolate factory?

I wonder if anyone can help me...

My parents are visting us for a week and I seem to have mentioned to them there's a chocolate factory in Geneva. They're really keen to go but I can't find one!

Google gives me this http://www.chocolat-auer.ch/en/chocolate_factory.html but it doesn't say if it's a factory you can go round, try chocolate etc.

Searching the forum turns up Cailler Nestle in Broc.

Is there anything closer to home?

Many thanks

Kate

Re: Geneva Chocolate factory?

Faverger factory and HQ is located in Versoix ( 5 min walk from the train station if that matters ).

They run a nice lil chocie shop there, but I dont know if they do anything along the line of factory tours.... you could always ask.

Re: Geneva Chocolate factory?

Hi,

The nearest one I know of is the Cailler factory, in Broc (near Fribourg) :

Go visit Gruyères (and its famous cheese factory) at the same time !

Re: Geneva Chocolate factory?

Hi,

there is a Martel in Carouge, Rue de Marché. They make all their chocolates there. It's small, just one room, but its really good. They talk through the whole chocolate making process and you have to try lots of chocolates to understand the different stages of how different chocolates are made. It's really interesting and tasty! I guess it's not like visiting the bigger factories, it's only a half hour talk but friendly. Then they have a nice terrace and coffee shop where you can relax and eat lots more!

Sorry, I didn't see this post last week!

Chester

Re: Geneva Chocolate factory?

From what I remember, the chocolate factory near the train station in Versoix is open only once a year for tours - during Versoix's chocolate festival, which was earlier this summer.

The trip to Broc to see the Callier chocolate factory, if done in conjunction with a trip to Gruyere (where you can visit cheese factories as well), is worth it. They've recently re-done the chocolate factory, and the tour (now self-guided) is not as good as it used to be, but you can still eat all the free samples you want.

Re: Geneva Chocolate factory?

Regarding the chocolate train. The carrages are quite nice with extended windows. The first stop at the cheese factory is mildy interesting but the castle at Gruyere is better and is worth seeing.
I personally didn't feel that the chocolate factory was that great. Being typically swiss the tour was rather short, to the point and lacked something . The tour at cadbury's in england is much better.

Re: Geneva Chocolate factory?

The closest I know of is Lindt & Spruengli in Kilchberg. They don't do tours though (even Mr. Bartholemew's mother, who works there, couldn't get me in ), but they have a really good factory outlet kind of shop there.

This is what I found on Zurich's tourism web site:

http://www.zuerich.com/en/offer.cfm?...ours&id=131105

This one manufactures chocolate for Migros in Aargau, but looks as though tours are only offered in German for groups:
