Aussie girl from London has no particular reputation at present
Re: Anyone flown Brussels Airlines?

Hi,

I recently flew with Brussels Airlines (to Africa) - & have to say it was one of the worst airlines I've flown with (& being from Oz, I've certainly done my share of long-haul flights!).

The main problem with the plane I got was that there was no in-flight entertainment!!! (actually, I tell a lie... as there was one big screen which showed an old country & western movie from the 70's, following by a wildlife documentary - again filmed in the 70's!).

At the end of the day though, a 2.5k savings is alot of money so personally I would probably fly with them again in order to save that much...

Happy Decision Making!

Re: Anyone flown Brussels Airlines?

Aussie girl: for this itinerary only the Geneva - Brussels is operated
by Brussels Airlines, and the rest is operated by Jet Airways. The
transatlantic market is heavily competitive, and I found Jet Airways Bru-NYC service better than Continental and American Airlines.

Good suggestion. Yep looked at that, super expensive though....what is it with Air Canada? I am also looking at the Delta Zurich-Buffalo option with stop in JFK. Timing is good so we may go with that option.
Best I could see was 1040chf for an adult direct to ZRH/Toronto and direct return; of that total, over 390 was taxes and fees, and only 650 was for the ticket itself.

Re: Anyone flown Brussels Airlines?

The best is to get a hold of Aeroplan/Air Canada miles. For 80,000 miles
you have business class ticket, and 100,000 miles for first class.

I think the easiest and cheapest is to fly Jet Airways to YYZ, and rent
a car and drive 160km to Buffalo. You need a car anyways to get around
in Buffalo.

No sure about the that as I think you are saying Geneva to Toronto without any stops.

As far as I know, Air Canada only goes via Frankfurt or Zurich.

If fact, there are no companies doing Geneva to Toronto with out any stops.
I stand corrected - didnt notice that tricky little stopover note !

Re: Anyone flown Brussels Airlines?

Flights to NYC are a little bit cheaper, but it's a 7 hour drive to Buffalo.

Re: Anyone flown Brussels Airlines?

Check out the Air Canada website right now. When you select Switzerland as your country you will see they have a sale on flights lasting another 13 hours (till midnight EST). They are offering
GVA-YUL from CHF 580 rtn all-in (ZRH CHF 567)
GVA-YYZ from CHF 579 rtn all-in (ZRH CHF 599)

I'm not sure of date availability but well worth checking out as these Air Canada fares (to Canada rather than the US which is always cheaper) are usually more like CHF1,000.

Travel dates
:

between Tue 8-Mar, 2011 and Thu 14-Apr, 2011 or
between Thu 28-Apr, 2011 and Sun 15-May, 2011

No mention of this airline when I searched the forum, and all the travel review sites have horror stories about them (just like every other airline, I hasten to add...people like to rant when something goes wrong but are less likely to write of their great experiences).

Looking to take the whole family across the Atlantic on Brussels Airlines out of Geneva. It is significantly cheaper than any other option, but would definitely not be worth saving the bucks if it will be 11 hours of sheer torture.

Anyone travelled with them before?
Mel ! Have you been/driving in the Toronto/Buffalo area bevor .If not Driving there can be a Nightmare ,if you don't have the timing right ,All the International Flight come in a about 1500 hr ,bad time for driving in GTO

Very good. I only read the original post where the summer was not mentioned. Also I said I did not know which dates it applies to. Thanks to your research maybe one of the many others who've posted in this forum could find use for this offer.

This offer comes up on all the airfare search engines (using those dates), e.g. http://www.sidestep.com , http://www.ebookers.ch

Unfortunately, flying in the Summer is always double or triple the price.

It depends when you're travelling - BA comes out slightly cheaper GVA - Toronto at the moment. Brussels Airlines flights go GVA-BRU then you will join a Jet Airways flight from Brussels. They fly from Chennai (and probably other Indian cities) to Toronto with a couple of hours stopover in Brussels. I did Toronto-Chennai with them a couple of years ago. The service was quite good, I was early at the airport and they booked me into a seat by an emergency exit which was definitely an advantage. If you haven't already tried it I recommend searching for flights on Amadeus.net, it's pretty good at identifying best fares on simple point to point routes.

Thanks for that. Never heard of Jet Airways. Off to do some more research.
That's the way it should be, as soon as anybody heard about an airline, 99% chance because the airline done something silly, gone bankrupt or pranged an aircraft.

Jet Airways is around since 1993, and they have 99 Boeing and Airbus aircraft, with 29 on order. Their primary hubs are Mumbai and Brussels. Average fleet age is 5.4 years.

Brussels Airlines started in 2007, 52 aircraft and mostly short-haul operations. Average fleet age 14 years.

Re: Anyone flown Brussels Airlines?

So, after writing to Brussels Airlines and asking what type of aircraft are used on their Brussles - Toronto route, this is the incredibly helpful answer I received:

We thank you for your email.

Our direct flights operated by Jet Airways India can be varried.

The fligh with a stopover in Montreal operated by Air Canada are always with a BOEING 767-300.

With kind regards,
Customer Contact Centre Team
For further information please contact our Customer Contact Center at 0902 51600 (for Belgium).
In case you want to contact us from abroad you can find our local telephone numbers on our website Brussels Airlines.com.
Brussels-Airlines
b.house,Brussels Airport
Building 26, box 1a.3
1831 Diegem-Belgium

After a bit more investigation, it seems Jet Airways runs a fairly new Airbus A330-200 on this route http://blog.flightstory.net/794/jet-...rlin-air-show/

So, I think I'm going to take a gamble and see how it is. I'll report back and let you know after the trip.
