Good photography websites?

Can anyone recommend any good photography websites for tips, tricks etc? Maybe even any online photography courses? I recently bought a Nikon D3100 and would really like to make the most of it.

Re: Good photography websites?

Here are four sites I came across a while ago whilst doing some general interest research but cannot directly recommend any of them. (Note the name of the last one. )

1) http://www.pxleyes.com/blog/2009/06/...l-photography/

2) http://www.picturesocial.com/

3) http://www.ilovephotoblogs.com/categ...to-blog-review

4) http://www.cameraporn.net/about/

Re: Good photography websites?

Hi Paddy,

I used to wander on
http://www.kenrockwell.com/index.htm,
and http://www.dpreview.com/ for reviews.

In fact I often peruse www.pbase.com for sites such as http://www.pbase.com/cslr_challenge
http://www.pbase.com/jaximages/basic_shapes&page=all,
http://www.pbase.com/blane9393/assignments,
http://www.pbase.com/jeffreytomasi/angles_architecture

As a Freiburger, you should now about http://www.photofri.ch/. They give a course every year. Subscription is somewhere in October-november, the quota is reached in 1 day... and the course starts in March. (Sorry, full for 2011). But mark the site for next year if you wish.

Re: Good photography websites?

Order this.

Google this

Then get out and start using your camera.

Further questions can be more than adequately handled here, or here (the latter is mostly UK readership)

Re: Good photography websites?

You could try this as well. The forums are pretty good, and the community at large is really great.

Re: Good photography websites?

Chiming in, it's been a long time since I did photography at school. Any good websites that goes over the basics of focal length, exposure, aperture, ISO settings and such, and their effects? (For digital cameras, if that's even relevant)

I'm just going for trial an error at the moment, but particularly interested in getting good shots under different lighting conditions aside from sunny days.

EDIT: Oops, looking in previous links pointed me in the right direction.

YOUTUBE!
When I got my Nikon D7000 I simply youtubed tutorials because the manuals are so dry to read (+ I've been waiting around 3 weeks for my english manual and it still hasn't arrived). Always easier when someone just tells you how it works (and you can pause and go back and all that )

Best buy I've done is to buy the book Understanding Exposure after Bryan Peterson. He's also on Youtube.

Yes! Understanding exposure is a great book to get you started. His writing style makes some of the more boring aspects tolerable. Great recommendation.

And I love your avatar!

I found it at Payot in Rue de Romont.

Re: Good photography websites?

You could also look at photography-on-the.net/forum. It's mainly Canon users, but there are forums for post processing, web site info, and lots of forums for specific types of photography. We have a number of Nikon users, so you'd be welcome. It's worldwide too.
