Walks between Yvoire, Thonons and Evian [FR]

My OH's parents are coming for Easter weekend and we were thinking of taking them across Lac Leman for the day.

Our initial idea was:

Ferry Nyon > Yvoire.
Somehow make it to Evian.
Ferry Evian > Lausanne.

The distance between Yvoire and Evian makes for a pretty unrealistic walk in itself (looks ~30km), but are there any segments therein that are recommended for some enjoyable sightseeing?

Oh and also, if you had to pick between Yvoire and Evian, which would it be and why?

Bah, and yet again, is it possible to walk from Evian to St. Gingolph (further east)?

Yvoire i say. its a one place you can visit every year for a half day stroll.

Yvoire to Evian and Evian to St. Gingolph by foot is not realistic, best option is let your visitors take the ferry from Nyon to Yvoire and meet them there by car.

By Car from Yvoire, you will enjoy visiting Evian then St. Gingolph and a final stop probably by sunset at Chateau de Chillon on your way back home.

If you don't have a car, your only option is the ferry hops.

Thanks temiatwork.

Forgot to mention that a car isn't an option, only public transport. And Yvoire has no public transport options on weekends (which is when we'd be visiting) - even by bus. Rail only connects Thonons to Evian (and doesn't go to St. Gingolph, as discovered here).

Maybe now you see my predicament. We've been told Yvoire is lovely and would like to visit, but it'd be a waste to cross the lake and not visit Thonons or Evian especially if a nice connecting walk exists somewhere.

We actually do plan on taking them to Chillon afterwards, which is why ending up in St. Gingolph would be ideal. Just not very practical, it seems.

This website reveals that there's a bus on Saturdays from Thonons to Evian to St. Gingolph, but only at noon or 18:50. It may be an option...

So if we could walk from Yvoire to Thonons by foot before noon, then take the bus to Evian at noon, then the 18:50 bus to St. Gingolph in time for the ferry across to Montreux, that would be pretty ideal I'd say!

Hm, didn't consider ferry hops between French villages....

Is there a website for all the ferry crossings/hops?

Here you go.

One more thing, Yverdon is on the other side of lac Leman, i assume you mean Yvoire to Thonon? You wont see much in Thonon, Yvoire-Evian are the best tourist attraction in the French-side of the lake.

Another option is to rent a car, it is a lot cheaper too.

Bah, yeah I keep switching the two. Fixed now. Maybe once I visit one I can finally cut it out.

Looks on Google Maps as if most of the lakefront is privatised and not for public use. But if anyone has knowledge of a walk near Yvoire, Evian or St. Gingolph, I'd be very grateful.

Re: Walks between Yvoire, Thonons and Evian [FR]

Since the spring ferry schedule will be valid for their visit, looks as though there's a ferry from Yvoire to Thonons, so if there's a walk between Thonons-les-Bains and Evian-les-Bains, that would pretty much complete this itinerary!

How about bikes?

Last I knew you could take bikes on the CGN lines, but please verify. I've biked the whole around the lake thing, and the stretch from Yvoire to Evian is not too bad, like biking in the rest of France.

Re: Walks between Yvoire, Thonons and Evian [FR]

Found this old thread and thought to revive it. It seems to me the usual route is Lausanne-Evian or Nyon-Yvoire, but there is no bus/ferry between Yvoire and Evian? Could anyone please confirm it? Would like to visit both towns in the coming weekend.
