Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) Bridge Scene

So I have guests over who love DDLJ (it's a bollywood movie) and there is quite a famous scene on a bridge in Switzerland in the movie:

I've done some googling to find out where this is.

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...4063431AAf60Nh

This chap seems to think it's at Kappeler Bruecke in Luzern

But after some google images searches this bridge doesn't quite look the same.

http://www.bikerszene.de/biker/funny...1135691-1.html

These two chaps seem to have found the bridge or something that looks quite similar to it.

http://travel.webshots.com/photo/122...61764446CzozhM

But the bridge in the movie seems to be much wider. It's also very close to a train station...

If anyone has any idea it would be a great help

The train itself might give some clues as to where the scene was shot, maybe it would be worth asking at a model railway shop? They might know in which part of Switzerland such blue and white carriages are/were used.

You'll probably find your answer here. http://www.bollywhat-forum.com/index...c=259.265;wap2
As I haven't seen the film I don't really get the descriptions. As far as I understand the scene should be in Saanen or Zweisimmen, although my guess would be Saanen (Marktgässli Bridge, railway crossing, station). The trains in Saanenland are blue/white, but from Zweisimmen there are AFAIK also normal SBB trains in use..

I would agree with Saanen. According to IMdB, one of the locations is Saanen station and Google maps of the village seem to point to the Marktgässli bridge over the Saane river, especially the shot of her walking away with the level crossing in the background.

Re: Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) Bridge Scene

I'm not sure the bridge and the train station are actually in the same place. Earlier in the scene it's greenery and a barn in the background on the right, suddenly as she walks away, it's right by a train station, maybe 2 locations?

It's definitely not Kappelbrucke, they film a lot of Bollywood scenes around engelberg, and the area looks like some of the scenery you see from the train.

First she is coming from the station. I think it's just weird cutting at the end. The field is behind her and she looks back for the train, when she should actually look straight to the station and when she goes away she should be walking in direction of the field (outside the village) but suddenly there is the station..but then again they are not standing on the same side of the bridge at the beginning and the end it seems...now I've completely lost the plot...confusing:-)
no I'm not at work right now

Google maps of Marktgässli bridge...

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=marktg...-8&sa=N&tab=il

There is a building the lower left of the bridge, which I think is the buidling you see in the final shot of the guy, with the sign on the wall.

Meh, bad link, just search for Saanen and zoom onto the bridge

I was thinking the same thing in regards to the two different scenes.

The location of the bridge certainly seems to match where it might be.

In all honesty I think I might just take them for a day to Luzern since it's suppose to be the prettiest place in Switzerland. The bridge isn't even that nice

After all the effort?
No I agree, there is not much to do in Saanen besides skiing/walking around and the Panorama train. Have fun in Luzern!

Might be Interlaken according to some links.

The Bernese Oberland is also quite famous for Indian film crews.

I saw a Indian film crew at the Hauptbahnhof in Bern some years ago, doing a song and dance number on one of the escalators

Rubbish!
Unfortunately I had to watch it again (and again). As always we just have to follow the river. Reminds me of what you could do there..

Saanen is on the right side going downstream. They are always standing on the downstream side of the bridge it seems and so she is coming, looking and leaving in the right direction. So the only confusing thing remains the greenery and barn cyrus mentioned. Maybe it's the greenery next to the "airport" (the video shows the river bank way and the street) and the barn does not exist anymore...or.. ok I'll get my light summer jacket.

There's a bollywood film locations tour in Luzern, you can get your photos taken in spots made famous in films, and go home with a photo album...a friend of mine went on it last year..possibly useful if you decide not to go for the bridge!
