| | Last minute trip to Basel, anybody to show me around?
So i hope to come to Basel on Thursday 28th. The main reason is this
Is there anybody kind enough and with some free time to show me around a bit? Worst comes to worst, Im perfectly happy to come in Basel, see the flower and go back to Geneva. It wont be more of a day trip anw.
I know its a bit too much short notice and maybe not even worth it but i would like to try all the same. Lunch is obviously on me |

I'll be working (unfortunately) but if you start at the train station and just walk to the downtown/old city you can see all the main sights by walking. Have fun!

Sucks
Its not really worth it going by myself. While i love walking pointlessly around when having company, i get bored after 5 minutes when im on my own. Even meeting somebody for lunch would be nice.
Im a bit desperate arent I? |

Really? I read somewhere it would be open until Sunday. So i guess it will stay in this state for a while? I mean it wont totally die.
In that case i might as well plan the trip for some other day..

Hello!
I ve recently been in your situation ( http://www.englishforum.ch/jobs-offe...y-absence.html)
My friend is travelling alone this week all over Switzerland and she also prefers much more to have a companion than not to have any. Really on the 28th she has already planned visit to Lausanne and meeting on of EF members but maybe they can reorganize..
Is 28th very fixed for u? Write me a PM and we'll discuss if interested.
(by the way there is a tulip festival in Morges) or u r badly interested in this giant flower? |

Use re-runs from the webcam.
I took my son there last Saturday just at the right moment and was there before 9.00, still we were one and a half hours in the queue after 9.00 you would have waited for hours and hours in a line that streched for over a kilometer. Then after paying 20 Chuffs enterence fee you get herded into little groups and have three minutes to pay your reverence before getting kicked out again.
Of course you can get all the Titanwurz tat, like Titanwurzparfüm, the flacon for 10 Chuffs.
Take it from me, go to Aldi and get some mincemeat, leave it out for a few days and take a wiff to get the full Titanwurz experiance.
It was interesting though to see the thing in the (rotting) flesh so to speak, slightly off this planet, a triffid looking like a mutant tenticle vigina with a giant yellow dildo sticking out of it and smelling of rotten meat, a lot like my ex wife come to think about it.

I'm at work on Thursday, but am free in the evening.
However, you're too late to see the stinky flower. I went last Friday night, at around midnight, but as of two days ago it closed up again.
It's now closed http://titanwurz.unibas.ch/webcam.php
And by Thursday the entire flower thing will probably have fallen off or wilted completely. I don't think you can even get to see the plant any more.

We passed the queue at about 23.30 on Saturday night and there were a fair few people there. It streched back to Spalentor (though I've no idea where it started).

I know what was missing.
Slammer is a pussy with a weak stomach, show me something ikky and I will hurl.
Those little baggies you get on a plane, I stood in line heaving much to the amusement of the others.
A bird in the botanical garden
A plant in the botanical garden
my son doing what all boys do when faced with water and gravel
the stinky plant, makes me heave just looking at the picture

I would like to organise a meeting but i dont think is fair on her or the other EF members who she is meeting to change the plans so last minute. If the thing is dead there is not much point anyway. | Quote: | | | | | I'm at work on Thursday, but am free in the evening.

Its bad news but at least it saved me the trip. Do you know if the gardens are open for a visit in general? Do you think i could call there and ask about if that flower is till alive in english without having people laugh at me? Assuming i find the phone number of course

Is the 20 CHF the normal entry fee to the Botanical Gardens, or was that just to see said smelly plant?

Is this "make stuff up" day?
It was 5Fr to see the plant before the flower opened, 10Fr to see it the two days it was open and stinky, and the botanical gardens are totally free at all other times (but it seems like the plant will be moved somewhere out of view).

You won't be able to see the flower, the website says that as of yesterday no more visits are possible...
But the botanical gardens are open and free to get into on a regular basis it seems...here's an english link: http://www.basel.com/en.cfm/sightsee...ng-154565.html | This user would like to thank Boogaloo for this useful post: | |
