For accommodation, I suggest an outer suburb with good S-Bahn connections (including Night-S-Bahn on the nights from Friday to Saturday and Saturday to Sunday) like Glattbrugg with the Hotel Bahnhof

There are many nice pubs like the Irish Shamrock at Tramendstation Wollishofen or the Paddy Reilly's at Sihlporte, or the James Joyce at Pelikanstrasse or the Devi's Bar accross from Wiedikon Station or the Bohemia at Kreuzplatz, just to name a few.

There are non-expensive accommodation-alternatives in the centre like this one :
