Tips for frequent travelers

Ok, next to my question about best luggage for frequent travelers, another one. Tips & tricks!

All you super-experienced-frequent-traveling-businessmen, it would be great if you could share your tips with us - the not-so-experienced-crowd

Especially, it would be great to hear about advices on earning miles or free flights/hotel nights. Would anyone recommend the Miles-And-More credit cards?

Thanks!

K.

M&M credit card: not particularly as it takes ages to get a decent amount of miles, unless you spend a lot.
I use one from AirBerlin but then I travel with them weekly.

And if you stay in one hotel chain more often, I use their programme, much more fun to get free nights!

Re: Tips for frequent travelers

M&M credit cards are ok... if you use while travelling on business then it is quite good (hotels easily bump up your spending). Maybe if you spend on average a couple thousand Fr. per month it is useful. What you get in miles you will pay some other way.

For example, the Amex platinum used to give you really good mileage, but the other services offered was nowhere as good as the non-M&M amex platinum.

for tips on collecting miles you need to visit flyertalk.com

If you don't fly tons of miles, you might consider BMI Diamond Club as an alternative to Miles-and-More. You can still credit all your Star Alliance flights there, but it takes far fewer miles to get a silver & gold card -- which will get you into the lounges.

BMI also has a 'cash plus miles' award that is great value, so you can be flying for 'free' much sooner than you can with Miles & More.

As others have pointed out, flyertalk.com is where to go to learn more about maximizing your mileage earning opportunities.

Re: Tips for frequent travelers

Miles and more and so on are not really worthy anymore.
As said above one need to fly regularly and in business class to get very little things.

In term of "%" reward it would be something like 1-3% reward of your expense.

Meaning the "present" would be hardly obtained.

Example:
One fly 3 times a month in business class, intercontinental:
At the end of the year the total of miles might give like a medium size samsonite or a blender.

One fly 1 times a month, economical:
At the end of the year you have enough point to get a free alarm clock or similar.

Re: Tips for frequent travelers

Only ever use your miles for upgrades, ALWAYS book your first class driver a week in advance because of foul ups at the steps of the plane, NEVER drink swiss first class white wine because its well swiss and ALWAYS take your own newspapaer because the onboard ones are very inky and havent been ironed.
Hope it helps

Also bring your own brown sugar as the one you get on planes isn't up to scratch
