| | Open wine cellars day Geneva
hello there,
On Saturday 28th May is Open Wine Cellars Day in Canton Geneva and I can tell you, they have some fantastic wine! They are running a mini-bus service that will take you round all the cellars, just hop in or out at will, leave the car at home! You buy a glass for 5CHF, then it's free tasting, although I doubt you would resist buying! In our village alone (Jussy), there are at least 4 wine makers taking part (including one organic) and I know that a lot of them will be setting up stalls with salads, cheeses etc... So if you have nothing better to do, explore and enjoy!

Hi,
I am looking for more information about this "Caves ouvertes" in Geneva canton, but it's nowhere to be found. In all the forums and their website I have read the same: 5chf for a glass, lots of wine tasting, lots of different wineries and a shuttle going from one to the other. Sounds great, but I had some questions about it, I hope you can help me
My questions are:
- Where are the wineries? (I know there's a list in http://www.lesvinsdegeneve.ch/ , but do they all participate in this event?)
- What hours are they open?
- What's the route of the shuttle, and timetable?
- How can I get to the first one from Cornavin?
Merci bien! |

We love it here! And we find the Swiss from Romandie absolutely delightful (well, most!)

Merci bien! | | | | | True that advertising events is not a forte in Geneva countryside. Web info, nil. I'll try and look for more info in Tribune de Geneve. I can only speak for the wineries in Jussy, they'll run from 10.00 a.m. till 5.00/6.00 p.m.
I have found on the tpg website the list of the minibuses (running every 30 minutes on Rive Gauche, 7 to 20 minutes on Rive Droite). If you cannot work out what it means, let me know and I'll translate. Anyway, for example in Cornavin take tram 16 to Rive, then G bus to Vesenaz (10 minutes from Rive to Vesenaz), then you are on your tour!
Hope this helps and happy tasting!

Forgot to add that in Jussy the participating cellars should be, according to my latest news: Denis Pinget on Route du Chateau l'Eveque (also selling various food and salads and his home made oils), Ferme de Meveaux (same street), specialising in organic wines and I think they'll have cheese and finger food with the tasting, Chateau La Gara and Chateau du Crest (entrance to the village, round about ROute de Jussy and Route de Compoix, it's the castle you first see when you arrive from Geneva). The mini bus drops you off at Jussy Place, which is where the local church is. Walk past the church and follow the main road to the next round about, you'll hit Route du Chateau L'Eveque on the left h.s.

| | Reminder Caves Ouvertes
Remember that it is Open Wine Cellars Day in Canton Geneva tomorrow (see my previous thread for detail). It is all the more important to support the local wine industry that their other agricultural activities (wheat, corn...) have really suffered because of the drought. In particular, I'm encouraging you to support Denis Pinget in Jussy (as well as all the others, of course!). If you want to meet a genuine, most charming and gentle Swiss farmer with the authentic Geneva country accent, he is your man! He also specialises in a whole range of oils (rapeseed, pumpkin seed, sunflower, walnut, poppy, linen, safflower...). I'm sure he'll have some on offer.
I'll be around to interprete if anyone is worried about their French (Denis doesn't speak English!).
A demain!

A demain! | | | | | I've just been to Denis and Irene's kitchen, they are preparing the most gorgeous salad for their wine tasting tomorrow and yes, Denis has confirmed that he'll be selling all his varieties of oils tomorrow. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow!
