Re: A Place to Hide

My solution to the "navel contemplation philosophy" would be to rent a small boat with a cabin , take it out onto whichever is the nearest and most beautiful lake, armed with supplies, a portable bbq and enough hooch to sink the proverbial battleship, lob my portable over the side within 10 metres of the port and anchor up right in the middle of said lake.
You will of course be sufficiently oberservant to notice i did say navel and not naval although they could equally apply depending on ones persuasions.

Sounds like just the thing I'd like to do.

I usually go to a small beautiful hotel in Ascona, Hotel Casa Berno. Quiet, beautiful, great food, you can book the sauna for private use, fantastic service and every room overlooks Lago Maggiore.

Re: A Place to Hide

Update: thank you all again for the excellent suggestions.

My hiding was very successful and I made the decision I had to make.

I went to Gimmelwald, awesome little village of approx. 130 people, not many tourists staying there overnight, reachable only with a funicular. Got there on Saturday, stayed at Esther's Guesthouse (Esther is cool and friendly), the weather was so so that day (= short walk around the village, lots of reading, writing, many beers and cheese with the very friendly English-speaking locals - although at the end we all spoke the same language), good night sleep.

Next day, woke up super early, breakfast with all the drinking buddies of the night before, hiked up the mountain and then last leg on the funicular to the Schilthorn, a visit to the Trümmelbach Falls, and finally a pit-stop in Interlaken on my way back (Interlaken is ok, but too many people/tourists around – not really my thing, especially as I find myself in a weird time when crowded places get on my nerves).

Loved it, and highly recommend it. Attached a picture of the view from my window.

Good luck with whatever you've decided. Onwards and upwards.
