Eggishorn route to Aletsch Glacier

I'm interested in seeing the Aletsch Glacier via the Fiesch-Eggishorn route. What is the best way to go there from Lauterbrunnen/Murren/Stechelberg?

Re: Eggishorn route to Aletsch Glacier

www.sbb.ch/en, enter Lauterbrunnen as your start point and Eggishorn as your destination.

Three and a quarter hours each way via Interlaken, Spiez and Brig... a spectacularly massive detour to get to what is basically the other side of the mountain .

Would have been even more massive before the new Lötschberg tunnel

But much more scenic

There must be loads of these huge detours for short "as the crow flies" distances in and around Switzerland. Zermatt to Breuil-Cervinia by train and bus doesn't bear thinking about...

There was a plan to build a tunnel from Stechelberg to Brig but it was not considered cost effective.
