What's to do in Zürich on a Sunday?

I might be travelling up to Zürich on Sunday afternoon for a "business transaction" and thought I might make a day of it with my 2 girls, 13 and 11. Question is, I really only know bars and pubs in ZH, so what is there to do on a Sunday afternoon in the big smoke with said rugrats in tow?

Does it involve a plain brown envelope?

Can't help but I am sure this won't take long

Possibly, my contact's name is S. Blatter, something about catarrh. Well, I think that's how it's spelt. I think he might be a doctor, or at least is skilled in doctoring things.

Hmm, seems Zürich is a right bundle of frigging laughs on a Sunday, eh?

Mate, I wish I could help you....... but I have 'zero' experience in entertaining children that age.

I guess you could at least pack your swimmers and go for a swim at the lake, or along the Limmat.

Then walk along the Zurich lake edge, grab an icecream from one of the many vendors along the way....... then cross over to Bellevue and catch a movie at the Corsa cinema.

I wouldn't know what to do with myself without beer on Sunday, so I wish you the best of luck.

Go round all the Kiosks and news stands that are open, and see who can buy up the most copies of a certain flown-in Sunday publication.

Good idea, just in case I, or the kids, get caught short.

You might consider going to the Zoo, if not already been there...

I'd thought of the zoo, but I think they might be a little old. We've already been to Basel zoo twice.

A swim and a movie might be a feasible option, though.

Old for the zoo I love the zoo!

You could go to the lake, the cinema, what do your kids especially like doing?

Your kids will love it, mine still talks about it and we went in February.

Well, at the moment, the eldest seems intent on watching the entire House collection .

Alpamare may be an option, but it's a bit of a trek. We'll be spending enough time on the train as it is.

Sheesh at 13 and 11, time to cut those fatherly apron strings Paddy.

Options: take the train to Basel.

Re: What's to do in Zürich on a Sunday?

Do the girls have bicycles? Generally, Zurich = rather flat around the lake. Great sights and swimming opportunities. Maybe if the day stays warm, and added picnic along the waters edge to re-energise? Fun, Healthy, ... a day well spent!

The Zurich one is better.

And you're never too old.

Re: What's to do in Zürich on a Sunday?

If you go to the Zoo which I think is supposed to be one of the best in Europe, afterwards you could go to the restaurant nextdoor called Outpost. It has the best steak I've had in Zurich. Canadian Black Angus Tenderloin. Mmmmmm.

If you go to the Landesmuseum and get the watertaxi (which is included in your Zurich travel ticket) you can get the boat down to Casino at Zurihorn. The boat takes you down the river Limmat going under the bridges and then zig zagging over the lake. It's really bustling round the Casino-Bellevue boulevard. Lots of people having fun on the lawns, going for a swim, playing frisbee, street entertainers. There's pedallos there for hire. There's a really cool water fountain there which is a rotating one tonne granite sphere. Take a bbq maybe. Then you can walk up to Bellevue via the Chinagarten.

All in all I think Zurich's a nice place to live but not really that interesting tourist destination.

I think there's a free outdoor music fest 20 mins down the lake at Wadenswil.
