Birthday hike - ideas for a present for m'lady?

I am reaching out to you all for some help with a creative gift (note the word creative, not original) for my girlfriend this upcoming Tuesday July 12.

We will be in the middle of a week-long trek throughout the Engadine region, and on Monday night we will be staying at a hut called Chamanna Cluozza.

On her birthday morning, we will then be setting out for an early, strenuous hike over the Fuorcla Val Sassa and probably staying at another hut Parkhütte Varusch that night.

Like any decent boyfriend, I want to do something nice for her on the day of (or preceding) her birthday. Although my German is painfully basic, I have no problem calling the friendly woman who works there and asking if they wouldn't mind arranging something (for a fee).

My only thought so far has been to ask them to arrange a nice private candlelight dinner for us and maybe a small dessert with a candle that I'll bring.

Any of you have any other suggestions?

A very small box with something sparkly in it would be very easy to transport.

I mean, Prince William lugged Diana's ring all round while he was on safari....

Erm.... might she already have some ideas about the romantic remote location? Just sayin

Think carefully about giving an engagement ring as a birthday (or christmas present). It can be seen as an easy option or a "two for one", i.e one 'gift' for two separate occasions.

(I wouldn't have minded, but my sister has already warned her boyfriend that if he tries it she'll say no!)
