start with 1st August, the Swiss National Day. A lot of fireworks, etc...
then 13th August, StreetParade: http://www.streetparade.com
well, and maybe some birthdays of EF people that are celebrated nationally :P
or, better: http://www.myswitzerland.com/en/serv...es/events.html | The following 10 users would like to thank fatih.erol for this useful post: | |

The most exciting event in August is the "Running of the Marmot", which takes place on the third Tuesday of the month, beginning at four in the morning, and continuing until the marmot collapses of exhaustion (usually sometime in the middle of the afternoon).
The marmot is brought from the village of Bugiardo in Tessin, where it has spent the previous six months training for its day of glory, drinking the finest Ticinese wines, eating only the best cheese and pate, and running up and down the mountain every morning before breakfast. Shortly before the Running of the Marmot begins, the marmot is fed a mixture of apple mousse and amphetamines and poked with a sharp stick. Then it is taken to Paradeplatz, where it is released to the cheers of the assembled crowds.
The marmot is pursued through the streets of Zurich by a team of riders, the leader wearing a fine feathered hat made from the tanned skin of the previous year's marmot. The leader is responsible for making sure that the riders never actually catch up with the marmot, leading them down side alleys and across bridges in order to give the marmot a sporting chance. Meanwhile, the people of Zurich celebrate with marmot sausages, mulled wine on ice and brown candy floss.
Finally, the marmot becomes exhausted, whereupon it is thrashed with a blunt object, flayed and exhibited upon a pole.
It is a fine spectacle, fascinating for children and adults alike. I can send you some tickets for it, if you like. Does 150 CHF for each sound reasonable to you?

Marmots have, of course, been protected since the great Marmot Flaying of 1283 which left only 2 breeding pairs in the world. Luckily, by 1284 everything was back to normal as they are randy little beggers.
Anyhoo, just remember they are protected and cannot be harmed in the horrendous manner described above. Except, of course, during the Great Marmot Sausage Throwing Festival in Rapperswil every year.
