things to do in/around Lausanne for a 19-year-old

Hi everyone,

I am going to Lausanne for a conference between 17 and 22 July. My 19-year-old daughter is coming with me. I am going to be busy during the daytime, and I would be grateful for any ideas on what a 19-year-old could visit or do. She is into Visual Arts, also loves physical activities and does not speak any French. I have already downloaded the list of art galleries, but would appreciate more info/suggestions on events, exhibitions, etc. I was also thinking about windsurfing lessons(?), since we are staying in Ouchy. I did look at language schools, since learning some French would be good, but all standard courses are 2 weeks min.

Would be really grateful for any tips. Many thanks in advance!

I can't imagine a 19-year-old thinking too much of a French course for such a short visit.
My grandchildren are all much younger, so it's difficult for me to advise you, but I would think maybe a simple lake excursion on one of the boats going around Lake Leman, or even going over to Evian, if the weather's reasonable.
I'm sure she'll have her own ideas, though, which may well involve shopping, shopping and even more shopping.

Nice walk on the lake from Ouchy, where you will be staying, all the way to Lutry, pretty much car free all the way and places to stop and rest, restos.

There are the piscines too, at Montchoisi, above Olympic Museum, and, Belle Rive on the lake.http://www.lausanne.ch/view.asp?DocId=27852&Language=E

French lessons in such a short time, cant advise that.

If your daughter is keen on sport, she might be interested in The Olympic Museum in Lausanne. Don't look at a very old map like I did it moved ages ago to a wonderful site down by the lake (Quai d'Ouchy).

I could have spent a whole day there (come to think of it, it must have been nearly a whole day ) and if I remember rightly the two languages used to describe the exhibits are French and English so that should be Ok too.

She is into Visual Arts,
Art Brut Museum. Seems like this captures people's imagination. http://www.artbrut.ch/

Many thanks to all for useful ideas! - hopefully, this will create an alternative to 'shopping, shopping, shopping', which I agree does look like the most likely option... Thanks again!

Anybody around with a daughter the same age who could show her around town for the day? That would be nice.

The Hermitage has some great exhibitions. http://en.fondation-hermitage.ch/run...2&sansframe=tr

She could combine it with an energetic uphill walk through the Sauvabelin woods, including walking up the Sauvabelin Tower.

Or if photography interests her, the Elysee has Fellini at the moment http://www.elysee.ch/en/homepage/, and if going to the Elysee, it is easy to do the lovely Ouchy/Pully/Lutry walk along the lake.
