Closest Mountain to Schaffhausen?
Where is the closest real mountain where we can go up with a train or something similar, have to kids run, maybe have lunch etc, to Schaffhausen?

Re: Closest Mountain to Schaffhausen?
Säntis is probably the nearest real mountain, though Pilatus and Rigi are not much further

Re: Closest Mountain to Schaffhausen?
Säntis has a nice cable, but there is not much to do for kids up there as the mountain is really rough. I suggest Pizol or Flumserberg.
I second Rigi, which is really nice for a day trip.

No not close, but none of the "real" mountains seem to be..

The Technorama is best visited when it's a nice warm day, it's virtually empty then and you don't need to wait to play with the gadgets.
I'd suggest the Schnebelhorn in near Wald, ZH if you've got kids. No railway, but a couple of restaurants on the way up and nice views of ZH Oberland and the Säntis regions.

Fair point. I was about to say that it is a great place for a rainy day but your sunny day isdea has a lot of logic.
Last time I was there it was a dull day. Queues were not too bad.
It is well worth visiting for adults or children. You don't need to be a scientist to enjoy it.

Re: Closest Mountain to Schaffhausen?
We got there early, around 10.30am and stayed till it became very busy (after 2 pm). Hardly any wait and the kids had a lot of fun, we all loved that blitz thing where you can make funny pictures of your shadow! Also with a big family like ours it's better to take a 6 months pass, so we didn't have to go to all the attractions, have 6 months to go again..and again...and again!
