Jungfrau good morning ticket

I searched the forums, and I mostly find information about Jungfrau, but there is not much info on Good morning ticket.
I was looking specifially on details from Lauterbrunnen.

The ticket price is 130CHF/93EUR on their web page. But 130CHF is actually 110EU now.
Can I still buy tickets in EU and pay only 93 EUR?

Secondly, it gives me the rate from Lauterbrunnen.
Does the train from Interlaken pass through lauterbrunnen area, or we have to first take train to gridenwald.
If the 130 CHF covers the grindenwald, it would be good, otherwise, we would rather drive to grindelwald and catch train from there.

That said, since we have a car, whats the destination closest to jungfrau we can drive to, so that we save money on good morning ticket.

If there is no such destination, we would take the Lauterbrunnen ticket, but I am not sure if its all inclusive all the way to the top.

Secondly, question about coming down.
It says we have to catch the 12noon train coming back( or earlier)

Question is, do we have to do the return journey in one shot, or we can catch the train, and get down to some station, hike a section and re-catch a later train.

If this thing is allows, is there a good 3-4 hike with great views on the way down?

Re: Jungfrau good morning ticket

I am sure that you will find that any rates quoted in Euros are for guidance only. You will be charged the current rate.

If you travel via Lauterbrunnen you do not travel via Grindelwald. The route is via Wengen to Kleine Scheidegg. The trains from Grindelwald travel to Kleine Scheidegg as well. You will change train there.

Lauterbrunnen is the best place to park.

Usually, breaking your journey is not a problem. Check your ticket for any restrictions such as the latest train that you can take. This may apply to the morning tickets.

Re: Jungfrau good morning ticket

I checked the route.
It says
Lauterbrunnen - Wengen - Klein Scheidegg (change of train) Jungfrau

The good morning ticket seems to be applicable from Klein so that we have to reach there by 8am.

My question was, can we hike from Klein to Mannlichen and then to Wengen
The hikes are very recommended.
This way, we purchase the good morning ticket, and get to walk some 10kms of downhill.

The hike from Kleine Scheidegg to Mannlichen is fairly easy and has great views of the Eiger Northface and the Grindelwald valley.

The hike from Mannlichen down to Wengen is very steep in places. If you don't do much/any hiking then you probably shouldn't attempt this.
The weather can be very changeable in the mountains and you will need to have alternative plans and ways to get down in case it turns bad.

As long as you are no later than the 12.00 train from Jungfraujoch there should not be a problem

Re: Jungfrau good morning ticket

You can walk from Klein Scheidegg to Wengen roughly following the trainline. It's very popular. Great views over Lauterbrunnen valley.
Or from Klein Scheidegg to Mannlichen then take the cable car down to Wengen.
Or from Klein Scheidegg up to Eigergletsher and along the Eiger trail to Alpiglen and get the train back up to Klein Scheidegg. The fare isn't much.

As Tom says, the Mannlichen to Wengen path is very steep and probably none too enjoyable going down.

Re: Jungfrau good morning ticket

Thanks,
good information.

The good morning ticket for the first train from Klein is around 90chf. (8:30am or something).
I was wondering, instead of spending 130 CHF and then taking trains all the way up, would it be better if we
1. Purchase ticket for lauterbrunnen to Klein
2. Purchase ticket for Eigergletsher - Jungfrau - Eigergletsher (approx 90 CHF)
3. Walk down to wengen
4. Purchase ticket for Lauterbrunnen from Wengen

Is there a site for ticket prices, so I can do some math?

Re: Jungfrau good morning ticket

I used to live in Grindlewald and have hiked down from the Mannlichen to Wengen but, as Tom says, it's pretty steep in places and very hard on the knees.
The walk down from the Mannlichen to Grindlewald I found much easier.

www.sbb.ch/en will give you both train times and prices. Be careful, by default the site assumes that you have a half fare card and displays the reduced price - you have to specifically select full fare if that's what you will be paying.

I've found it's worth to shell out the extra and get some comfort built in. You are really wasting your time trying to save a few CHF's on tickets when lunch or car parking could wipe out that saving, or you miss a train getting tickets and have a 30 minute delay, or you have to rush your lunch etc.
Also, walking times can vary, so trying to hit deadlines can end up ruining a lovely day in the mountains when you should be relaxing and soaking it up.

Re: Jungfrau good morning ticket

Thanks for your replies.
I used google maps etc, to plan the route.
This seems to be cheapest
Lauterbrunnen - Wengen - walk (2 kms)
wengen - Kleine -> 24 CHF full fare
Kleine - Jungfrau - kleine good morning - 90
Walk to lauterbrunnen from Kleine -> 8 kms downhill - Is it true, or is google bluffing me

total cost 114 CHF

With so much walking we save just 16 CHF.

But is the Hike to Lauterbrunnen from Kleine worth it?

Actually, the aim of walking is to do the Kleine Scheddig walk.
So going up, we won't walk much, just to wengen from Lauterbrunnen area.
If we take the complete 130CHF ticket we will miss the great walks in the region.

We start at 6am, reach jungfrau by 9am or so, and then after spending 2 hours there, reach the klein scheddig area by around noon.
From there we want to do the walks.

Whats the nearest car parking we can walk to from Klein Scheddig

You forgot to mention that there's 500m of height gain in that 2Kms from Lauterbrunnen to Wengen.

You're trying to play beating the Swiss at their own game.
Many have tried, most have failed.
You will get what you pay for.

I was checking the Bernese regional pass, and its one with one free.

So if we get this pass 200 EU for me and my wife, will we get 50% off on jungfrau good morning ticket?
Then it does make sense.
This pass is 233 EU
Or jungfrau ticket will come to 130 EU for 2 people,
Total cost is 130+233 = 363 EU as opposed to 260 EU.

For 100 EU more, we can do some boat rides etc.,

1) EUR prices are for guidance only, if you pay in EUR you'll be charged as per the prevailing exchange rate.
2) The Good-morning-ticket can not be combined with other reductions. The Bernese regional pass gives you 50% off the full price.
3) The special offers are there to fill trains that would otherwise be empty. They're empty because their timings/routings are not very attractive. The Jungfrau region was one of the first mass tourism destinations, and boy do they know how to optimise yield.

Re: Jungfrau good morning ticket

The path from Lauterbrunnen to Wengen is very pretty, with good views of the valley. Allow 90 minutes to 2 hours to do the hike, depending on how fit you are (as said above, there is a height gain of 600 metres/almost 2,000 feet).

Using the distance in kilometres to estimate time/effort is not a good idea in the mountains... what really counts is how much height you have to gain or lose.
