Hi,

Planning a trip to Reykjavik,Iceland during the end of August for 7 days. We don't drive, so can't rent a car there. Would you think it's better to get there and then organize day trips/tours or book them from here. What would be a more affordable option?

Also any general suggestions/tips for touring Iceland are welcome. Thanks!

Car rental and petrol in Iceland is extremely expensive, and there
are definitely many organized tours you can go on.

I did have a look at the links you suggested. It's just that I don't know if I'm restricting myself to the tour operators I see online. Would it be better to get there and then book something or is it better to just book these tours in advance, given that it is the tourist season. Also give the expense involved, I don't really see too many reviews for the tour operators...hence the dilemma.

What are you planning to do?
If you intend to just pootle around Iceland on Route 1 then I would suggest take the bus and save yourself some money.
If you want to go into the interior then hire a 4x4 and guide...I would do this before reaching Iceland, more expensive but saves you the time and hassle when you arrive.

Whale watching can be booked there and will be cheaper.

Interiors is the idea and the 4X4 the preferred option. Any suggestions on tour operators?
