Need to pop to Lugano for a couple of days, not been for a little while but it seems that since Darwin have taken over Baboo they have decided that their cheapest flight to Lugano is now CHf 700 if you are lucky.

So apart from the 4 hour drive and the 6 train journey, does anyone know of better options?

I think you just covered all the options. Anything else quicker is going to be a lot more expensive, either in jet fuel or speeding fines....

if you go over the weekend yep, its fine, otherwise their cheapest midweek fare is 700 chuffs. i just need to go midweek for one night

If you count check in and disembarking times your door to door time will be longer than 4, or maybe even 6, hours.

nah, not on darwin/baboo. i live 15 mins from GVA and its 15 mins to lugano centre form the airport, check in is only 40 mins too with 40 mins flight.

Flight to Milan then train will be a lot cheaper, a lot of hassle and time though I would imagine.

From Geneva station to Lugano station the rail journey takes 5 hours 40 minutes, with excellent scenery most of the way. Low stress and low environmental damage. Think of it as a holiday.

think i may have foxed it a little.. its cheaper to book a "dummy" return say for 2 weeks later and then not use it than it is to book a single.. then repeat the opposite way for the return trip..

Make sure you read the T+Cs. They may fine you for that.
