Dittinger Flugtage / Airshow Dittingen 2011

Hi,

Anybody heard of the Dittingen Flugtage (Dittingen Airshow 2011), and if so any ideas how it works, and how to get there from Basel. I got confused with the information on the site about postbuses etc, and do these cost with a U-Abo and Halbtax card.

If I go, will be taking lots of water, forecast for 34C and sunny!

Many thanks,
Mike.

Re: Dittinger Flugtage / Airshow Dittingen 2011

Are you still in Maccelsfield?

Take your Halbtax Karte and your Abo. Ask if they are valid.

www.sbb.ch

Take S3 at 07:37 from Basel SBB platform 16 to Zwingen station,
arrive Zwingen at 07:58

then take Post bus at 08:03 to Nenzlingen, arrive 08:09

Wait 14 minutes,

take Post bus at 08:23 to Dittingen Dorf, arrive 08:43
(Don't get off at Dittingen Post)

then walk 13 minutes to the airfield. Flying starts at 9 am.

There isn't very much useful information on Internet!
http://www.flugtage.ch/flt07/d/Progr...uf.php#sonntag

Here is a map of Dittingen,
http://map.search.ch/d/da3zjm2mw

I have sent the organisers an E-Mail asking where is the airfield, and could sombody show you the way at 08:43 on Sunday morning.

I have had a reply, my map above http://map.search.ch/d/da3zjm2mw is correct, the airfield is west of Dittingen Dorf.

Re: Dittinger Flugtage / Airshow Dittingen 2011

We were there too - just down the road for us - brilliant day out, we all had so much fun - the boys (age 7 & 4) loved it. All of us utterly nackered from the heat and I'm slightly pink despite serious suncream but great day all the same.

It's on every 2 years so next one is in 2013 - we'll be there

Not a good weekend for air shows

Following the tragic accident at Shoreham Air Show in which at least 7 died, on Saturday (22/8), there has now been a mid-air collision between two light planes, at Dittingen Air Show (BL, CH), in which at least one (one of the pilots) has lost their life.

Re: Dittinger Flugtage / Airshow Dittingen 2011

Went there today. Very sadly, there was a crash during a formation, by the 'grasshopper' aircraft, right in the beginning of the main program and one of the pilots is no more.
Was a sad sight to see!!
The show was cancelled thereafter.

My husband and I talked about going today, but due to the weather we decided not to venture out. Too bad about the accident

Re: Dittinger Flugtage / Airshow Dittingen 2011

Airshows are usually around end of August.
Part of the reason a lot of people show up there is the silent hope to see a crash.
See a crash, not be part of it, of course.
But you can't always choose.

FYI: the Ramstein Airshow Disaster was on August 28th 1988.

Re: Dittinger Flugtage / Airshow Dittingen 2011

Yes. It was a heavy drizzle for a little while, but the rest of the (little) time, it was a very light to no drizzle.

The damaged aircraft fell straight downward, after a loud impact (no explosion), down the hill and out of everyone's(spectator's) sight. The emergency crew had to drive around the hill to reach there(not far).
We had to wait for about an hour until the sad news was announced !!

Very bad weekend for airshows with the crash at Shoreham in the UK yesterday. Death toll there is expected to be at least 11

Re: Dittinger Flugtage / Airshow Dittingen 2011

awful news, we went yesterday and were talking about how dangerous these airshows are for the spectators, standing so close to the airfield with all the tricks and formations they put on in the show, with many old aircraft, and field runways . Of course there was the crash at an english airshow yesterday, and one in Croatia (?) during the week

I hope that following the accident the authorities will reconsider granting the permit to the Patrouille Swiss for flying over Basel during the Tattoo.

It is a very different thing to doing a full display at a show.
