Well that looks like a nice program. It's CHF 80 per month and a whopping 2% foreign transactions fee for credit card use though (that's on top of the not-very-favourable exchange rate).
Aaah, forgot to say, Staff discount CHF20 per month. 0.5% fee and favourable exchange rates.

Re: How frequently do you use airline lounges?

Are the people in lounges the same people standing in that funny looking bus which takes them to the aircraft? Whenever us Mods have to use scheduled flights due to The Local's Dessault being out of service, we have a limo pick us up from EF Towers.

[Word's not out yet but EF Towers is soon for demolition as we'll be permanently airbourne from November onwards.]

Re: How frequently do you use airline lounges?

Use them at Zurich and Moscow every time I travel.....and luckily, the frequent flying gets miles which results in a card that means I can use the lounges when flying on personal economy flights. Nice perk

As to why.....same as others. Wifi, recharge PC batteries, free drink. I like the comfort more than the atmosphere....grey illfitting clothes, red faces, sweaty, self important stuffed suits pouring fistfuls of peanuts into their maws with G&Ts barking at some unfortunate PA on their phones

Best BUSINESS lounge in the world IMO - Virgin Upper Class in Heathrow. Spectacular. Massage, haircut, Playstations, pool tables, full English, Celebs. Even better than the flight

Re: How frequently do you use airline lounges?

I heart my Priority Pass-perk on a Platinum AMEX. I don't fly all that often but when I do its usually long haul from here to home in cattle class (Sydney). So to those who suspect these facilities are only being used by upper class snobs exclusively- nah, they sometimes let peasants like me in too!

The chance to have a shower or freshen up, eat something which doesn't taste like tinfoil, have a cold drink which is slightly larger than the 120 ml glasses (half filled with ice) they generously provide in economy, its lovely. It really is.

It makes you feel all relaxxxxed for a few moments, right before being crammed in like a slightly too fat sardine into a slightly too small tin can, for the next leg of the flight.

Ahh yes, the little perks of life.
Shouldn't everybody be able to travel like that?!

Re: How frequently do you use airline lounges?

Do you all show up 4 hours early to your flight so you can use the lounge? Seems like a terrible waste of time to me.

Unless of course you've somehow scheduled a flight with a 5 hour layover. In which case you should be reprimanded for not shelling out extra cash for the direct flight, or the shorter layover.

I love people watching in stations and airports, so never go into the quiet lounges. But I never travel for business. If I had to do so regularly, I probably would.

I once had a 17-odd hour lay over in Singapore on my way back from Sydney. Why? Because I was unemployed at the time, and flying home for my dearest friend's wedding on the largesse of my husband. He wouldn't have minded paying the extra 400 odd francs to make my lay over 2 hours.

I very much did mind. As it turns out, I went into Singapore, ate a delicious hawker-stand meal, walked around a bit, and then had enough time to return to the airport, shower and get dressed in my sheep-decorated jimjams for the next leg.

Yes, I am *that* person. Get busy reprimanding!

Re: How frequently do you use airline lounges?

I try to limit the time I spend in airports as much as I can. I had a 23 hour stop in Dubai with Emirates but I got a free hotel with vouchers for all my food which was nice.

Cynical bitter rubbish.

These rooms are an oasis for seasoned travellers. We do not think we are important, just wiser, privileged and savvy.

Not many people buy their own Business Class ticket.

But having a Credit Card that costs CHF240 per year, giving travel benefits (Lounge visits , Travel Insurance , Travel Assistance) to a value of CHF800 is clearly a common sense decision, and not one designed to delay your flight.
Yep I think you just confirmed that your one of those strangers who think they are important

i really like airports too, esp. heathrow when there are many people buzzing around. heathrow also has better shopping than the whole of switzerland combined. also has several 'pubs' to get a drink.

Sometimes it's out of your control. The trip from my home in Kent to Heathrow could take as little as 2 hours. Or as much as 5. Typically if I left 5 hours before my flight I could have a couple hours wait, or 30 minutes wait. It always made sense to have more time to spare.

Oh, THAT non-stop to MEL I've been looking for for ages. Which airline do I have to book with?

Leaving aside the obvious envy, on long-haul economy flights lounges are a god-send. Nothing quite like stepping into a nice lounge (with well-appointed showers) in Singapore or Bangkok airport after 13 hrs from Europe and before another 8hrs to Australia.
Exactly. I use lounges either before departure if I get to the airport early enough, have the right ticket (some European business class fares are not much more than economy and the extra luggage can come in useful) and can enjoy the facilities.

Otherwise the best use I've made of a lounge is the Air Canada International departures lounge at Toronto. We've travelled (economy - yes Air Canada sell lounge passes!) back from the West Coast on good deal fares with Air Canada and when e.g. stepping off a 5 hour economy flight in a wee plane from Seattle it is wonderful to be able to enjoy a shower and a decent drink or three before carrying on to Zurich. It really makes all the difference taking that shower part way through the journey as to feeling better on arrival back 'home' especially if you get picked apart by customs at Zurich on arrival (I must look dodgy when I've travelled through the night - it never happens on intra-European flights).

Note that the same does not apply in reverse - the "transborder" lounge at Toronto which you use when going Europe-Canada-US is really not worth the price of admission - no showers, not so special.

There is no reality in what you believe me to be. You are fooling yourself , probably to ease the have-have-not syndrome you appear to be pushing.

Now, your experience of airline lounges is what exactly ?
