One of our clinical directors does so much flying that he's top dog in the Lufthansa flight program. As well as the usual pampering, shower of gifts and freebies, he gets driven to the plane in a limo... the plane, not the airport | This user would like to thank Castro for this useful post:

I would say the majority of lounge users (and for that matter, the majority of airline users) are people like 'us'. They're normal people who get the privelege of a little comfort during what is essentially a necessary but uncomfortable process- travelling to get anywhere.
Where it breaks down is when you come across the troglodytes. I once was in a business class lounge trying to have a quiet conversation with a recruiter when three children ran around screaming seeing how many things they could drop which would make a loud crashing noise. The parents looked on, alcohol laced drinks in hand (I'm assuming) relieved that something was distracting the kids from bothering THEM for a while.
However those sorts of people would be equally offensive outside a lounge as inside it.

To think airline lounges are snooty is somewhat out of touch. Most folk there look like the over-worked zombies that they are. I mean, they are flying commercial darling.. such suffering!
This on the other hand...
Or if one is so important one can take one's time getting there... | The following 2 users would like to thank Swissmountainair for this useful post:

No one likes to spend Hours in the airport. But there are sometimes when you arrive early at the airport, for example because of being in a big city and trying to avoid traffic which can cause you miss your flight. So you take the taxi earlier than usual. When you do, you'd like to spend some time relaxing before the plane takes off and you don't want to do this with the huge crowd of the people. I don't think that people will go to the lounges just to "feel important".
Also, If you have spent so much time in CH, it's normal for you not to understand it, because Lausanne - GVA Airport is always 42 minutes and if you have checked-in with your Iphone/Blackberry you immediately go to the gate without losing any time. But CH remains an exception to the rest of the world |

| | Re: How frequently do you use airline lounges? | Quote: | | | | | Recently, I traveled quite a bit and on occasion was glad to use an airline lounge to relax, get some work done or just unwind.
Since generally speaking, these airline lounges are discretely packed away from the herds, many "generic" tourists probably are unaware that such services existed. On the other hand, I can imagine how business travellers would react if the "in tranfer sardine-class herd" from Mallorca would bark in and started ordering "beers-'til they drop". Out of curiosity, how many of you frequently use airline lounges and for what purpose? | | | | | A bit of respect for the herd from Mallorca please! My kids and I are not animals! Yes I go for cheap holidays in Mallorca because the beaches there are child-friendly and I can't afford business class! | The following 3 users would like to thank Mélusine for this useful post:

Even during the busy early Monday morning departure time you can usually make it from train to gate in less than 30 mins, with luggage to check (with BA...other airlines may be different).
I love the BA app that displays your boarding pass on your phone. No need to print anything. Do other airlines do this too?

The new DLR line from Stratford International is now running and is advertised as 17 minutes to LCY. I haven't risked getting into Stratford at 6:15 for a 7:00am flight yet....but should just about be doable.
