Hello everyone,

I am looking into a trip for 2 in the 1st week of January. Ideally I would like to visit Lugano, Zermatt, maybe take the glacier express... and of course my significant other wants to go to Paris

BUUUT... anybody have some advice on a trip that would kind of connect the dots? Doesn't have to include both Lugano and Zermatt, I just would like to spend some time up in a cute mountain village, and then also visit the italian part of Switzerland too.

Right now I have already booked Jan 8th-Jan 9th 2 nights stay in Bergun, which I love (ive been there once before) so i was thinking maybe on the way back, jan 10th stop by for a night in zermatt or so? i found a nice looking, affordable hostile there. does that make sense?

glacier express i think would make more sense another time, since its long and would kind of waste our days traveling. but again, i dont really know

Newbie on the forums, but I'll chime in nevertheless. Zermatt, Glacier Express and Lugano you can connect seamlessly, if you take Glacier Express from Zermatt to St. Moritz, and Bernina Express to Lugano (or other direction, of course). Zermatt you either love or hate, and the only way to find out is to go there.
I am doing pretty much the same itinerary in February with the PiLs, but both me and them are train fans, so the transportation is not an issue but rather a reward itself.

If you're into train travel across postcard sceneries then you can't go better than that, although traditionally Lugano is mostly recommended to visit during the seasons more compatible with Italy, at least for the first time. (Although I would love to get some feedback from fellow Luganesi about the area during winter time).

I'm not a Paris enthusiast at all, however, if I remember correctly there used to be a direct TGV connection from Brig to Paris, although I am not immediately succeeding in finding it. Even if it was not direct, you shouldn't have problems reach Gare de Lyon in about 7 hours from Zermatt, perhaps one more hour from St Moritz.
