Skiing this Sunday near Geneva?

Do people think skiing near Geneva is still OK for this weekend with the warmer weather that has passed as it is still cold at night? We want to possibly take the kids tomorrow. Any ski places people can recommend with plenty of blues for small children? We were at St. Cerque the other weekend before the warm weather and patches of brown earth were already peaking through the snow....

Re: Skiing this Sunday near Geneva?

One of the closest resort is La Clusaz- or Morzine, in Fr, but do Google to see what conditions are like. The Jura has had 25cm of fresh snow on Wedesday night and Thursday, so if their maintenance guys did their work, conditions should be OK. Otherwise go to Haute-Nendaz above Sion, and head for Siviez. Or go up to Glacier 2000 at Les Diablerets- high but nice easy runs - or Verbier of course. The runs at Lac des Vaux and La Chaux are darkish blue, but nice and wide. DON'T do the WALL but to Siviez though although my 5 and 7 year olds used to do it with their eyes closed

Re: Skiing this Sunday near Geneva?

Thanks! I have been curious about La Clusaz, as we've tried Morzine and Siviez and liked them both. Being new to Geneva we are trying to get different places to explore. It turns out now that we may not be going tomorrow, so I'm hoping to squeeze one last Sunday out of this winter skiing next week if it is not too warm....

Re: Skiing this Sunday near Geneva?

I was planning to go to St. Cergue tomorrow (Sunday) Should I reconsider ???

I don't have a car and find it very convenient to get there by public transport. I checked St. Cergue website and it says ski conditions are good.
I guess we will go anyway.

nyswiss - did you end up skiing in st. cerque this weekend? If so, how was it? We are still thinking of heading out this sunday if there is halfway decent snow.

Re: Skiing this Sunday near Geneva?

unfortunately nyswiss jr did not complete his schoolwork and we were unable to go skiing this sunday. Parenting is tough work.
Hope to get jr on the slopes one last time, before skii season ends.
Do you know of any other destinations as convenient by public transport as St. Cergue ?

Re: Skiing this Sunday near Geneva?

I am sorry I do not know much about transport other than driving to the mountains. This is our first winter in Geneva and we've just been taking the car everywhere. I wish I could help.

There are ski-busses on weekends (and Fridays) from central Paquis to a few resorts, which are very handy. 70CHF pp though - but not bad as it includes your lift pass.

They tend to leave about 8.15am, back about 6.30 - 1hr to 1hr30 each way depending on resort. I was in Avoriaz last Saturday, and Flaine on Sunday, lots of snow still in both, great skiing!

They are popular though, so get your tickets a couple of days in advance if you want any choice.

Details and timetable here: www.gare-routiere.ch - choose "Ski Pass and Transportation" from the drop down box in the bottom right corner.

They don't go to all resorts everyday that they list in this though, being French, they seem to randomly pick where they will run buses to any particular weekend :P Buses are scheduled to keep running for another few weeks though, so time yet to get your skiing fix in!
