Any ideas for a family wellness weekend?

we're looking for somewhere in Switzerland to spend the Pfingsten weekend.

Ideally a thermal resort with some action for the kids (10 + 13), so everyone's happy.

we've looked at places like Bad Ragaz, Scuol, Leukerbad, but would also welcome the opportunity of crossing the röstigraben

any experience to share? thanks!

Re: Any ideas for a family wellness weekend?

In our experience this spa was a little more oriented towards kids ( a little too much so in my opinion ) and is closer for you than Leukerbad... but to be honest I don't think there is much there other than the spa.

Re: Any ideas for a family wellness weekend?

Hi Venice

The best wellness place I have been to is this one

http://www.jungbrunn.at/

It's in Austria and I don't have any kids so I don't know how good it is for them - so doesn't perfectly match your specification - but I have stayed there and it was really excellent. The food was excellent as well.

If it's not the right place for this trip, it's worth keeping in mind for another time...

Tim

Re: Any ideas for a family wellness weekend?

bad ragaz - to save costs you can stay at the four star, you still get access to the lovely hotel spa

vals - the spa is beautiful, granite, and you can also go hiking in the area

good luck!

Re: Any ideas for a family wellness weekend?

Parco san marko beach resort, golf and spa in Porlezza (Italy but 10kms from boarder) is a great kids paradise and the spa is good. look at their packages for 3/4 days to get a good daily rate. www.parco-san-marco.com the local markets are not too bad either.

Re: Any ideas for a family wellness weekend?

thanks guys! we had indeed thought of having a look across the border, too, hoping to save a bit... the austrian thing looks like paradise, maybe more so without kids.

are austria and italy really cheaper? I have the impression that spa holidays are just as expensive everywhere...

I had forgotten about the myswitzerland site, thanks for the reminder!
has anyone actually booked with them once?

Re: Any ideas for a family wellness weekend?

for a proper expensive spa hotels the price differences between CH and austria are minimal, you may get some small differences due to the exchange rates

Re: Any ideas for a family wellness weekend?

update: I had found some great offers for Bad Scuol and have now being told by the tourist office out WHY rooms were going from 90 CHF...

the Bad Scuol thermal spa is currently being renovated
only the swimming pool and the römisch-irisches thing are open, which makes it of course totally uninteresting and logistically impossible (kids are not admitted)

so BEWARE!

so I tried this and have come to the conclusion that we must have very different budgets at our disposal
the normal family room at the four star costs 1500 per night, the "cheap" one 980 per night

but thanks anyway, you never know, I might find a wallet on the pavement...

I have now managed to book a very modest 2-star in Leukerbad which has really good reviews for 440 for two nights. I will report back once we've been there, because if it is ok it might be of real interest for other families scared of the typical swiss prices.

in leukerbad? I found an article on an italian newspaper advertising it as "the Switzerland you (average italian person) can afford"
let's see!

one thing which is making be a bit nervous, though, is that apparently all spas and thermal baths in CH are being renovated in the mid season. there is a plan which I can't really understand to see if exactly in those days the main attractions will be open. I can't find it anymore, but if I do I will post it.

Those prices are crazy, I've never paid anywhere near those prices. Maybe things have changed in the past year or so

quick tip... definitely take in the Lindner - ALpenTherme

admission is a bit more expensive than the ...err... municipal ( ? ) baths slightly down the village but what they offer in terms of pools and ambiance it's much nicer
