Where to buy Swiss Pass

Hello all, I want to buy a Swiss Pass (Youth) for a friend coming to visit. On the website, www.swisstravelsystem.ch, it advertises a Swiss Pass for people under 26 from the US for 146 USD but doesn't say how or where to buy this.

I went to the sbb.ch website and I found out I can buy it there, but it is a total of 192 CHF, which is more than 146 USD.

Has anyone bought this before and did they just buy this pass at the local train station? How early in advance do you need to buy this? Thanks!

Re: Where to buy Swiss Pass

I just went to the Zurich HB this morning to buy tickets to Paris, and the same Reisebuero offered rail passes, group discounts, international travel, and swiss travel. At this particular office, you selected which category you wanted to see someone about, and a computer printed you a number based on that category. A Swiss twist on the "take a number and wait to be called" system. Seemed highly efficient (quite Swiss I guess ).

Perhaps a local Reisebuero would have what you want, or you could make the trek to Zurich.

You can get it at any train station that has a ticket office.

The prices on swisstravelsystem aren't updated with the exchange rate fulctuations very often - the CHF price shown on that site is the correct one: 192 CHF for a 4 day youth pass.

Thanks, I guess that's unfortunate. I thought I could save 20 dollars somewhere for my friend. Thanks!

Re: Where to buy Swiss Pass

for the US rate the pass typically has to be purchased in the US -- the passes can be purchased here but the rates are higher (convenience factor) than those offered in the US -- you can oder them at http://www.raileurope.com/index.html and they are delivered usually in 2 days.
