Tour de France, Stage 8 Finish Porrentruy

Trying to convince my wife it'd be fun to head over to Porrentruy and watch the Stage 8 finish of the TdF. Online looks like there are nice B&B accommodations in the area.

We'll be using public transportation from Zurich, any tips for things to do in Porrentury the day before the race? Also this is our first TdF experience, any tips for spectating? Can you get around to different parts of the course or is it best to stay solely at the finish?

Peace,
Rob

Have a look at their website - www.porrentruy.ch

Porrentruy is a nice place and if I remember there is a rather nice castle there to visit.

The very small old town is rather surprising (because it is very old, well preserved and unexpected ).. but it is quickly covered on foot.

Best advice .. find a restaraunt and while away a couple of hours over lunch .. its not the most happening of places I am afraid to say .. but there is a municipal park with free wifi ... so you could browse EF at your leisure??

You will most likely be lucky to find somewhere to stay now, so close the the stage

But see also http://www.porrentruy2012.ch/en/home.8.html
You can go anywhere you like on the course, but the roads will be closed 4 or 5 hours before the race is due. Best places to watch are on mountain climbs as the race is slower and more spread out.

From the official website, http://www.letour.fr/2012/TDF/COURSE...par_etape.html
I see that there are a couple of climbs in the last 30kms so one of these would be a good place. But probably too difficult to get there with no car(or bike). So the finish is probably as good as anything. There will probably be a lot going on. I will probably go there myself, as will have 7 yr old with me and we will have done the mountain stage finish in France the day before.

BTW, the Tour de Suisse finishes in Arosa on Saturday.

Thanks! I'm in the process of making a reservation at one of the bed and breakfast places in town. It'll be my first time spectating at the Tour. Excited about seeing all the goings on!
