Places to visit in Switzerland

What are your favorite towns to visit in Switzerland and why? I need suggestions.
Thanks!

Re: Places to visit

I visited Thun with my sister last year in summer, we really enjoyed it!
Very romantic historical town at the end of the lake Thun, it's split by the
river Aare and so on either side there are gorgeous cafes & restaurants,
shops e.t.c

Have a look

Re: Places to visit

Well I guess that depends on what you're looking for, but the old part of Fribourg and the towns of Avenches, Murten and Aareburg are good for their historical buildings. Vallorbe is good as there are several interesting museums there.

Re: Places to visit

We've done:

Luzern and either Pilatus or Mt Rigi
Zurich
Lugano old town and lake
Engelberg and Mt Titlis
Gruyeres castle, cheese factory and Cailler-Nestle chocolate factory
Bern old town, river walk and bears, and museums
Geneva
Interlaken (walk through) and up to Murren and into the mountains
Swiss national park
Bellinzona
Chur/Bad Ragaz/Heidiland (Meienfeld) and Liechtenstein
Thun lake, ferry trip and the caves
Brienz, boat trip, Rothorn Bahn (but freaked out at the top of the mountain from vertigo and having three kids with us who were not so afraid of just falling off the top of the cliff).
Meiringen to go mountain hiking. Superbly beautiful.

All are beautiful, all have historical interest, all are easy to get to by public transport.

And there are hundreds more on my list 'to do' before we leave this beautiful place!

Interlaken is definitely one of my favorite places in Switzerland. Montreux is also beautiful.

Re: Places to visit in Switzerland

If you plan to go to the east part of Switzerland, I would suggest to visit St. Gallen. It's a picturesque small town and home of the Abbey Library. The library is really amazing and it's worth visiting.

Re: Places to visit in Switzerland

Luzern - boat trip on the lake - then ascent Mount Pilatus by cable car and down with funicular (or vice-versa) is a great day out.

Re: Places to visit in Switzerland

- The top of my list is absolutely Braunwald in Glarus - a must see, off the beaten path.

- A 1st class ride (top of the boat) from Flüelen to Luzern.

- Hiking in Appenzell/Säntis! Use http://www.schweizmobil.ch/de/welcome.cfm for all the hiking maps.
