Looking for recommendations: day trip from Yverdon to Gruyeres area

Hi everyone,

I hope it's not too late to have some input. We're driving from Yverdon to Gruyeres and back tomorrow, planning to take the scenic route through Moudon and avoid highways. We're with two little kids and one of us is 9 months pregnant, so we're looking for either suggestions on beautiful scenery or nice places to stop at along the way.

Thanks guys!

Re: Looking for recommendations: day trip from Yverdon to Gruyeres area

Do you want ideas for stops on the way, or where to go in Gruyeres ?

I would recommend the castle and the chocolate factory - Nestle/Cailler. The tour is great (if the little kids are in the mood) - it's very well organised and moves through quickly with lots of audio-visual and sensory effects (as long as the pregnant lady can handle the smell of chocolate!) - and as a bonus there's a good kids playground outside the factory.

cheese factory is not so exciting, unless they are actually making cheese - but again, there is a kids playground behind the cafe/restaurant.

Castle is good - well, at least the view from the top, and the shops in the courtyard. I would take care on the cobblestones if it's wet. The castle itself is fun enough to just let the kids run around a bit, but lots of steps if you feel the need to do the 'tour'.

Hmmm..not sure else. We went to Bulle on the way through because we were travelling by train and it was 45 minutes to the next connection...plenty of shops/cafes in the main street, and a somewhat rundown but cool labrynth playground behind the central 'castle' of bulle.

These are great, thanks so much!

If you have ideas for stopovers on the way, that would be amazing as well! And yes, the pregnant lady will appreciate the smell of chocolate...

Re: Looking for recommendations: day trip from Yverdon to Gruyeres area

hope your trip was good.... just in case you head to the area again in the future.... we discovered some really nice places along the way....

Creux du Van... it is quite a spectacular site... in the canton of Neuchatel, you can walk or drive nearly to it and park your car at one of the 'farmer's restaurants' for instance the 'La Ferme du Soliat' in Couvet. From there you walk for 10 minutes for some stunning panorama! http://www.myswitzerland.com/en/creu...e-travers.html

Another thing (not for pregnant ladies though) is the champagne tasting in Moutiers. There is the Mauler champagne which dates back to the early 19th century http://www.mauler.ch/ and for CHF 8 per person you get to see a movie about the history and production and you can taste as many champagnes as you like, for CHF 13 you also get to visit the cellars.

Enjoy!
