Christmas market in Bremgarten (AG)

http://www.weihnachtsmarkt.ch - The biggest Christmas Market in Switzerland celebrates its 15th year.

As so many of the members here seem to be located in the cities I just thought I'd recommend a nice day out here in farmer's country.

The annual Bremgarten Christmas market will be here Thursday (December 3rd) thru Sunday the 6th. It features over 320 stalls with goods being sold from all over the Reuss valley region. There are loads of concerts on offer with a Christmasy feel to them. In addition to the planned concerts you will find jodeling in the streets, groups of people carrying (and thusly ringing) giant cowbells, etc.

In addition there should be a nice large Ferris Wheel.

I've been to many a Christmas market in my days and this is the best "town" one that I've been to, and no, I'm not biased based on the fact I live here. Just a thought to those of you who might enjoy a day or evening out in the "sticks".

Bremgarten is 40 minutes from Zürich HB, with a change in Dietikon onto a local train (not the type that you are normally used to, looks like a glorified tram).

If you go, hope you enjoy it. If not, bah humbug!

We went to the Christmas market in Strasbourg at the weekend.
Awesome city, especially the architecture, and a lovely Christmas market.
Very popular too. Standing room only ;-)

We were there too. The town seems to have been taken over by Christmas markets.

Having lived in Germany and Austria.... I am amazed by how poor the Swiss markets are.

This is the biggest in CH??

According to the blurb promoting it. I can tell you that it is very famous as they get tourists from the busload every year from all over the place including France, Austria & Germany. I guess they're doing something right.

Re: Christmas market in Bremgarten (AG)

I went to the Bremgarten Weinachtsmarkt a couple of years ago, and it is very good, with yodelling and Alp horn exhibitions. Be careful not to be trapped in the non-Christmas market (which is suspiciously easy to do), as you will be stuck for 45 minutes in a crush of people all wondering why the hell they all ended up in a market full of stalls manned by Italians and east europeans, selling knock-off handbags, shoes, mobile phone accessories etc.

Cheers

Jim

Re: Christmas market in Bremgarten (AG)

It is a shame that several of the markets, including this one, do not go on until closer to Christmas. Don't they cater for the last minute panic buyers. Some people don't start their Christmas shopping until 4.00pm on Christmas Eve after the office party.

Shame it isn't a little closer to Christmas, but as always a nice trip out. If you have young children and come in the evening I would avoid bringing strollers as it gets packed!

Re: Christmas market in Bremgarten (AG)

I am planning to go to the market this weekend and am wondering if there is any significant difference between going on Saturday or Sunday. The website lists a number of events and musical performances and it seems most of them take place on Saturday, but maybe some concerts are more worth seeing than others? Recommendations and advice appreciated.
