Does it come in the form of ONE card for two people, or two different cards? I mean, is it by any chance possible to use 1 card for two different dates, but one person?
I'm pretty sure it is two people, traveling on the same day and itinerary. Not two one-time tickets at a discount. That's the point - you can travel with a friend.

I think if you're doing a tageskarte for yourself, the child would also need a tageskarte. It would be 16 CHF for 2nd class and 32 CHF for 1st class. See this page on SBB website for more info.

If you want single daycards and don't want to pay through your nose head over to your local Gemeinde and ask them if they have any free for the days required..

The Junior card.
With the Junior travelcard for CHF 30, children aged 6 to 16 years can travel on public transport for a whole year, accompanied by a parent with a valid ticket

Re: SBB Duo Tageskarte available again

thanks for the heads-up...does anyone happen to know if there is a limit on how many can be purchased by one person (I couldn't see it anywhere on the link)?

This would be ideal for Dec/Jan snowboarding weekends...and seems to work out cheaper than the rail portion in the "snow 'n rail" ticket

There seems to be no limit. I bought four once.

Re: SBB Duo Tageskarte available again

Just to add, I noticed that todays Basel "20 minuten" paper has a 10CHF-off voucher from the postshop website, so you could potentially use this on the Duo tagekarte offer to make it even sweeter ;-)

(unfortunately too late for me, as I'd already ordered mine...doh.)

Re: SBB Duo Tageskarte

Nice tip! Though it is a double-pass, i.e. two people travelling together. It is actually still cheaper than a normal one day pass for one person (CHF 71.-).... that said, very good value for couples or families.

Noticed they have mentioned the "Schnupper-Halbtax-Abo" and a Bon (assumed voucher) to get one valid for two months. It appears to be a temporary (or trial) half-fare card. I can't find more information on this. Anyone care to fill me in? (Only applicable for Swiss residents?)

Re: SBB Duo Tageskarte

As I understand if you want to get the two month "Schnupper-Halbtax-Abo" you pay 33 CHF which is the "regular" 2-month price of a halbtax (although you can normally only buy a yearly one for 175). If at the end of the two month trial period you decide to buy a halbtax they will deduct 33 chf from the normal yearly price. For a Halbtax one does not need a permit so I guess for this neither. Better ask this at an SBB counter.

"Gutschein für ein Schnupper-Halbtax.
Einlösbar für ein Schnupper-Halbtax für zwei Monate zum Preis von 33 Franken.
Beim späteren Kauf eines Halbtax-Abos rechnen wir Ihnen die 33 Franken an. "

Have you read the links posted above? From what they state, you can only use the card if your travel buddy (you have to remain together during the whole trip) has a half fare card (if you don't have one).
It's pretty clear - the offer is only valid if at least one person has a half fare card.

When you buy this ticket for 69 sfr, you will recieve a voucher with the possibility to purchase a "Schnupper Half Tax card " (valid for 2 months ) for 33 sfr, so you don't need the Halftax Card before you buy the Promo Ticket.

You have to make sure you can receive the half-fare card (or trial half-fare card) before the day you use the promotional ticket, however.

I'm not sure if this is an instant thing from SBB/CFF.

The issue can be easily solved by asking SBB if you can receive an "Übergangsabo" immediately upon purchase of a half fare card which is valid from the day of purchase of the half fare card. As getting an Übergangsabo is the normal procedure when ordering a monthly/yearly pass for public transport, I don't see why getting one for the Halbtax shouldn't be possible.

So, to be sure, ask SBB.
