Zermatt

A work colleague just mentioned Zermatt is open with decent conditions. Has anyone been? Could you offer advice on how to get there and where to stay?

How long are you planning to stay there and what is your budget? There are different ways to get there:

Re: Zermatt

I was thinking of going up for the weekend, and after asking around I found the train to be my best option. Still open for places to stay if anyone has any advice.

Thanks!

Sorry, too quick with the keyboard... (and just noticed I don't have an option to edit or delete my posts - weird)

You can get there by train (quite convenient from anywhere in CH); you can also drive, but you will have to park your car in Täsch (about 5 km away) and take the train or a taxi to Zermatt (since Zermatt is car free).

You can choose from a multitude of hotel and apartment offers, which suit multiple budgets. The difference between the cheapest and the most expensive is quite huge, therefore having a better idea of how much money you are looking to spend might be helpful. You can go on Zermatt's official website, they offer quite an abundance of accomodation offers (contact me through a PM if you need details, I am not sure if I am allowed to post links...).

Haven't been there this winter yet (I am planning a ski trip there in January), but I've heard from a friend of mine who skied there over the weekend that there are a few slopes open on the glacier, with fresh snow and good skiing conditions.

We'll be there for a mountain safety course from next weekend. We stay in a small hotel near the centre called Edelweiss - reasonable rates for the location and a decent breakfast. Was there at the same time last year and snow was excellent, especially on the Cervinia side.

Snow reports look good this year too, perhaps even better than the last, so I'm looking forward to it.
