Re: Best hotel in ZH?

Hi Kate, it actually all depends how much you're willing to shell out for the weekend. If money is not a problem, I suppose the best ones in the city center would be Schweizerhof or Widder. Dolder is gorgeous but it wouldn't be too convenient travelling back and forth if you're planning to shop in the city. There are other relatively decent, budget places as well in the center but it depends what your basic requirements are. Check out Tripadvisor and you can reply here so maybe some other folks can give you an idea how it fares in terms of location.

Re: Best hotel in ZH?

Hi!

I was for a weekend in "Guesthouse Gertrudstrasse 12". I was a very good hotel. Check in Booking.com

Cheers,

Maria

Well, it's 20-something minutes by public transport from the Dolder to Zurich, main station.

It's very quite and peaceful up there and in this season, it's also often above the fog-line. If money is no concern (rooms cost 540CHF and up - per night), the Dolder is probably a good choice ;-)

Each year my wife and I stay at the four points hotel in Sihlcity. It's got the shopping centre right on your door step. We also go to Asia Spa to relax and later have a really nice meal in Restaurant Rusterei amd finish with a movie in Arena cinema. To end the night we have cocktails in bar Urbano. How convenient and relaxing is that ;-)

If you can afford the Dolder, you probably use taxis rather than public transport

This is the best downtown hotel in Zurich. Should cost about 1000 for Friday and Saturday night.

True, but from personal experience (GF goes ice-skating there, not that I ever saw the Dolder from inside) I know that it can take a while by car.
It's certainly not faster most of the time.
So, there's little reason to use the car - unless, of course, you make it a principle of your life to never use public transport ;-)

Re: Best hotel in ZH?

Really very hard without some budgetary guidance and what is important for you.

And of course, most of us who live here are the worst people to ask because we dont stay at hotels.

Based on a famous website that give trip advice... I recently recommended the Helmhaus on Schifflände, super central for Bahnhofstrasse, old town etc, modern, fair prices, but no special amenities. The colleague was very positive about it.
