First date suggestion in Zürich?

Hi All,

I am planning where to take a lovely lady for a first date in Zürich. I need help coming up with ideas for the date. Given that she likes chocolate and wine (like many women), I have thought of doing one or a combination of the following ideas:

ice skating
checking out a wine bar
building a snowman
just wandering Zürich

*Is there a public ice rink that has skate rentals?
*Are there any vineyards or wine bars in/around Zürich that offer wine tasting?
*Are there any places that do chocolate sampling?

*Which is the best idea or combination of ideas?
Thanks for the help!

Re: First date suggestion in Zürich?

Well, I don't think there's any snow on the ground in Zurich right now, so the snowman idea probably won't work.

I know that, a few years ago, there was an ice skating rink set up around the holidays at the Swiss National Museum, next to the Zurich HB. And I'm pretty sure they had skate rentals.

Something that I personally think would be a bit romantic is to walk along the river or lake at night. If you do that, just be sure to tell her to dress warm.

Hope you have a wonderful first date!

You can skate at the Dolder ice rink. The trip up on the Dolderbahn is fun, and a short walk through the forest. Definitely dress warm.

Re: First date suggestion in Zürich?

You could take her to the Uto Kulm Restaurant, the view of Zurich's lights at night is awesome. Of course if it's rainy like today the walk from the tram to the restaurant is no fun.

I guess if you want to cater to her sweet tooth the Sprüngli café at Paradeplatz wouldn't be bad.

There is also an ice skating ring in Oerlikon just opposite the Hallenbad/ behind hallenstadium.

Re: First date suggestion in Zürich?

Thanks for the suggestions, everybody. Much appreciated ! Having looked on Google maps, Dolder seems a bit of a trek away from the center city. Am I right or is that not the case?
Is there any difference between going to Dolder and, say, the one in Oerlikon or the one in Heuried?

And afternoon tea at the Dolder Grand if you really want to impress, or a walk to the FIFA HQ if not

Listen to swispea, Dolder ice rink will be fantastic. Go when it turns a bit dark and check opening timings etc. Have fun!!

Re: First date suggestion in Zürich?

The Dolder Grand for afternoon tea looks lovely, but I think it might be a bit outside of my price range, even for Switzerland! Is there anything else up near Dolder?

Phil_MCR: ha! The other extreme, I see. Maybe I should clarify: something that falls in the price range between Burger King and a 5 star hotel. Hopefully that does not whittle down my options too much ...

You could eat at Dolder Sports

Or look for other restaurants in the area: http://map.search.ch/

Interesting idea. How's the food in the Dolder restaurant? What's the atmosphere like?

Re: First date suggestion in Zürich?

If your first date progresses to a second date (and you don't mind getting into your bathing suits), I think this place could be romantic:

I have only seen it from outside. I suspect that it is a bit corporate in style

Re: First date suggestion in Zürich?

There is a very nice ice skating rink at the sonne hotel in kusnacht. Its small but very romantic and right on the lake so beautiful views with mulled wine and sausages if yiu get hungry. It really is beautiful and am sure your date will love it. Google it and have a look. Kusnacht is 12 minures from stadelhofen and its a 5 minutw walk from the train station.
