Loud Croaking Frogs out yet at Seleger Moor???

Does any one know if the loudly croaking frogs are out yet at Seleger Moor?

It's fun to take small children if you can get the timing right.

There only seems to be a couple of weeks a year when they are loud.

Any advice?

Re: Loud Croaking Frogs out yet at Seleger Moor???

The love song hasn't started here yet, I'm waiting with baited breath. I have permission to pick up some frogspawn as long as I use the water from the pond to top up the tank every day. I will also have to bring the tiny frogs back, they are a protected species here in Switzerland.

I run a playgroup and base my curriculum on the seasons so metamorphosis is a highlight for me. Cant wait!

They are croaking loud and clear in Haute Savoie, France (near Chamonix) where I work at a small lakeside resort every weekend

Too cold here so they have not started yet. It only lasts for a couple of weeks- so chill and let it be.

We have a big pond in front of our apartment. So far the noise of the frogs at night is quite nice. Ask me again in a month...

Used to have the same scenario in Mozambique, when I was there. The swimming pool at the little complex I was staying at in Songo was literally full of croaking and breeding frogs.

ALL night.

EVERY night.

Needless to say, the frogs were the sole users of the swimming pool..

Just bringing back this thread to say that not only are the frogs croaking at Seleger Moor, but the rhodies and azaleas are in excellent form! I'll post up a couple of photos once I've downloaded them, but if you're looking for a few nice hours to spend in colorful mother nature, now is the time to visit

Aww, thanks, gonna try to make it over there. Did they just start blooming? That place is magic and rhododendron belong to my favorite plants - in masses like at Seleger Moor it's like paradise.

I'd say that they are in mid-peak. Some plants were done (mostly the azaleas) and some hadn't yet bloomed. Here are some pics from today, to give you an idea of the status

Anyway.... I have more pictures but I doubt that anyone needs/wants to see more Enjoy yourself if/when you go!

Re: Loud Croaking Frogs out yet at Seleger Moor???

FYI Seleger Moor will hit it’s peak at the end of May. We’ve been 5 times in the last 6 weeks (bought the abo) and watched everything unfurl and spring to life. Also saw and heard our first frogs today so probably another couple of weeks for them too. If you can get there are 8am on a Sunday morning the place is deserted and a joy to behold. The place is also doggy friendly.

Re: Loud Croaking Frogs out yet at Seleger Moor???

Seleger Moor is now open again. However, you need to buy your ticket and select an entrance time in advance online via their website. We saw and heard more frogs, ducklings and wildlife et al than ever before there over the weekend.

Re: Loud Croaking Frogs out yet at Seleger Moor???

Seleger Moor is open again. Rhododendrons are all set to burst before the end of the month though all bets could be off if it snows as heavily overnight as forecast in the Albis region.

They have changed their pricing structure this year so you’ll save CHF3 per adult if you book online ahead of your visit.

We saw about a dozen frogs this morning but no chorus as yet.

Re: Loud Croaking Frogs out yet at Seleger Moor???

Just spoke to front office at Seleger Moor.

They reopened April 1st but due to Covid restrictions to limit crowds must book online here (very easy to do):

https://www.selegermoor.ch/

They said they expect park bloom to be best in about 10 days (May 16).

They said they expect frogs to be at their best end of May / beginning of June.

Yes, it is lesser known but the upcoming weeks ahead is the best time of the year to go.

Also nearby is a small lake (Tuelersee) which is nice to have a gentle walk around.

On the lake is little restaurant with a terrasse. Not sure if now they have opened with meals outside. Alternatively, there are some very basic foods and ice creams, etc within the gardens.

The gardens are famous for their rhododendrons and azaleas (largest collection in CH) which will explode in color in the next couple of weeks but it's a good idea to really walk all around the gardens. They also have a nice fern garden.

But as you can see, I particularly delight in the loud, croaking frogs.

A walk along the nearish-by Reuss river is also nice.
