[Zurich] Any bridge players out there?

There must be some of you out there, and my apologies if this has been covered already - the word "bridge" turns up many times on the search - but I can't see any that relate to the game...

Anyway - I've been in Zurich about 6 months, and started playing bridge about 3 years ago (one of those years being completely idle - so I am fairly rusty) - I defy the stereotype of bridge players, not being 30 yet - so am just wondering if there are any players out there, or if anyone can recommend any casual open evenings in Zurich's clubs.

Re: [Zurich] Any bridge players out there?

Hi,

Funny, I'm just about to make a thread about Bridge !

There are a lot of Bridge club in Switzerland, especially in Zurich.
Check out these :
www.swiss-bridge.ch or
www.bridgefederation.ch

There are quite a lot of tournaments as well.

Currently I'm registered as a member in Baden, since my partner lives there.
www.bridgeclub-baden.ch .

Don't forget there is online bridge, which is BBO -- online.bridgebase.com.
They have a lot of vugraph broadcasts, you can watch them online.

I'm quite surprised as well that there are not so many young bridge players here.

Should we arrange a bridge evening as well ?

In what language?

My speciality is "percussion bridge".
I get slapped by my partner because I'm crap at this game.

And real men play "Nom".

Re: [Zurich] Any bridge players out there?

Hey everyone...

My friend and i are looking for people to play bridge with.... we are a little rusty, and were hoping to play in a more relaxed and social atmosphere. I have looked at some of the clubs in ZH, and they seem to be all about the tournaments (AMorrison, maybe you can correct me here?)

Is anyone interested?

Re: [Zurich] Any bridge players out there?

hey there, i'm Zimgirl's "rusty" friend... ;-)
we've read about these bridge clubs in zurich, and did contact them to ask for more information. well, it *did* sound kind of formal. now i'm used to playing bridge with my family and the rules i've learned from them (as far as bidding is concerned) seem to me to be more intuitive and relaxed, more prone to flexibility (and mistakes, which is also part of the fun ;-) )... in a word, i think i like them better :-)

if i were swiss, i'd be playing jass with friends over a can of beer. if i were in france, i'd be playing belote or tarot with friends over a bottle of wine. now being neither that nor there, i see bridge as the perfect, international alternative which can be played by the non-swiss (and swiss alike, i'm no racist) in a relaxing atmosphere. i trust there must be other players who'd like to join us in this endeavour?? :-)

@Ollie
cool, that makes 3 of us, only one person missing! :-) who're Hsiang and Jules Verne? are these people who also might be interested in playing with us?

@sammyboy
bridge is a trick-based card game *kind of* similar to jass, schafkopf, belote, ... it'd be a bit too long to explain all about it here and now, you can check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contract_bridge to know more about it. and i think most people in this thread would be mostly interested in playing bridge...

Hello there -

Was also wondering what happened to your bridge-initiative... did it get off the ground? I am also keen to start playing. Have not played for at least 10 years, so might need a drill down on them rules...

Re: [Zurich] Any bridge players out there?

I played bridge regularly for a year at university, but that was now <ahem> years ago (I stopped counting at 20) and have forgotten many of the rules. I'm going to be in the southern Zimmerberg area and wouldn't mind getting involved in an informal evening of bridge in a pub in, say, Richterswil if anything got off the ground in teh new year, for instance.

Used to play very-competitively when I was in uni, but it's been a few years now since I last took it seriously.

Spare intellectual energy was devoted instead to the complexities of the German language

Maybe up for heading to a club evening sometime in Zurich!

Re: [Zurich] Any bridge players out there?

I love to play Bridge - I am a club-level player but happy playing with/against anyone from beginners to experts.

As I am in the Basel area and it seems the other players in english forum are mostly from 'the other place' it might be hard for me to join you over there face to face...

But do any of you play online?, if so then contact me on Bridge Base Online - my id is 'Grifter'.

For Bridge oddities, chat that amused me (at least), pictures and stuff, see my collection in: www.cardtabletalk.com
