Weekend trip to Lugano or Como?

My husband and I are looking to take a weekend trip with our six year old (and Biscuit our tiny dog) to either Lugano or Como. Can anyone suggest which would be a better choice..??.. The more websites I look at, the harder it gets to choose.

Thanks everyone!

Re: Weekend trip to Lugano or Como?

Anything that allows us to eat Italian food and be away from home! My daughter loves horse back riding and I love the water. David is easy as along as we are happy. I figure we will travel on Friday evening, have all day Saturday and return on Sunday.

Re: Weekend trip to Lugano or Como?

Some ideas in the Tessin area:

http://www.swissminiatur.ch/?fuseaction=m1.home&lan=en

Take the funicolare up Monte San Salvatore and then hike down to the lakeside village of Morcote, have lunch along the waterfront and then take the ferry back to Lugano.

http://www.bringfido.com/destination/city/lugano_ch/

http://www.splendide.ch/

Best food in Lugano?

www.lugano-tourism.ch

Lugano to Como is to take the bus from Lugano to Mennagio about an hour ride. Then it's a quick 5 minute ferry to Bellagio.
Enjoy!

Re: Weekend trip to Lugano or Como?

Hotels are cheaper in Como. You can do a day trip to Lugano from Como if you really need to....

Or just stop off in Lugano for a couple hours on your way to/from Como!

Re: Weekend trip to Lugano or Como?

I live in Morcote (a village just outside Lugano and it is worth a visit - here are some photos I took: http://magnusbogucki.com/photography/morcote/)

Anyway, we are 20min from Como and in my eyes it is overrated.

Lugano is nicer. Locarno is also very nice.

If you go to italy I would go towards Bellagio - lovely small roads with great pizza places along the way.

Hope this helps

If you go to Como, you might see George Clooney.

If you do see him, say hello from me.

cheers

just wondering what you ended up doing? I am thinking of a day trip to somewhere in the area with my mom next week, and am trying to figure out what to do! Bellagio, Brissago Island and the botanical gardens, Lugano...

Re: Weekend trip to Lugano or Como?

SBB has a deal for Mt. Generoso- 50% off the ticket. It's good for 3 days and it ends on the 30th of April 2012. FYI- you can get off the train in Lugano or Bellizona for side trips.

Como or Lugano

Hi,

I have just one weekend with my boyfriend and would like to visit either Como or Lugano. Which is a better place to go and what hotels would you recommend? We are looking something closer to the station and the lake but not too pricey.

Thanks!

Re: Como or Lugano

Ascona is at the top of my list. Gorgeous with a nice walk to the harbour.

However, Lugano has an interesting old town with many quaint shops.
Como's interesting for a two hour visit.

Re: Como or Lugano

Thanks! Ascona sounds great. How about Lake Geneva region or Lake Constance? We would love a place with a good mountain view. Had settled on Como or Lugano hoping it would be warmer
