ISTANBUL-from which city to take a flight?

Me again looking for your help

I have just got a notice that I will be free week of 21st July. I want to visit ISTANBUL as this is city which was my secret wish for a long time. I work till friday 18.7 19:00 and start to work again on 28.7 8:00. I would really like to stay whole week there. So I need help with choosing a flight? It looks like that from Zürich is everything expensive?! Should I maybe take some cheap bus and then go from another city if there is really big difference in the price?

I have also heard that Low cost flights can sometimes take you really far from the center and at the end you need to pay a lot just to come in the town( so what should I avoid and which airport should I look for?)

Advices from experienced travelers are welcome)

Re: ISTANBUL-from which city to take a flight?

Turkish Air usually has cheap direct flights from Zurich. What price are you getting now?

BTW, if you are planning a budget trip, you can read my blog here, I was there recently - http://www.travelblog.org/Middle-Eas...og-783903.html

Keep in mind that it will be hot in summer. Spring or autumn is way better for a trip

Re: ISTANBUL-from which city to take a flight?

There are quiet alot of flight comparing websites now, I'm sure these would be the best place to check.

An example would be Skyscanner, has also applications on smartphones. From what I know Sunexpress or Pegasus might have cheaper options

Re: ISTANBUL-from which city to take a flight?

There are two airports in Ístanbul. Ideally you want to fly to Ataturk airport as it has excellent public transport links into the city centre.

The other airport, Sabiha Gokcen, is on the Asian side and is about 20 miles out of the city centre. Transport links used to be less good, but there's been a huge project to improve the public transport system across the city, and I think there's now a direct light railway link to the European side (which is where the major sights and most hotels are).

So I think you'll be "safe" getting a budget airline, as neither airport is in the middle of nowhere.

Re: ISTANBUL-from which city to take a flight?

I really do not care for the weather, even better if it is warm, when I am in Istanbul nothing else matters
Best price I have found is 380 CHF thanks to skyscanner! I am just not sure if this is with extra luggage included or it is only with a cabin luggage:/

Via Moscow? Are you on a world tour?

Just fly Pegasus direct for about 330 CHF.

Re: ISTANBUL-from which city to take a flight?

For the given dates this was the cheapest option ( at least I think)

I am looking to go right away after work on friday and come before work on monday ( of course if the prices are not to different if departing on saturday and coming on sunday)

I used your dates, otherwise my post would have been pointless.

Re: ISTANBUL-from which city to take a flight?

As I said in my first post I am working till 19:00 so if I take pegasus I need to go on Saturday and price from Zürich to Istanbul is 255 and Istanbul Zürich 160 because I need to go on Sunday ( Monday flight arrives at 15:30)

Which makes TOTAL 415,00 chf

But thanks anyway

Re: ISTANBUL-from which city to take a flight?

But arent you anyways being in Istanbul also the next day by taking a flight to Moscow ?

Thats very personel but for additional 30 sFR I would definetly go direct with Pegasus, unless you have a special reason to visit Russia or collect some miles...

Re: ISTANBUL-from which city to take a flight?

I thought about that too, but I think it is better for me to save 45 chf (210 is flying with one stop in Moscow) and being there at 11:00 on Saturday then flying at 14:10 and arriving at 18:00.
I just want to use every minute I have free

Re: ISTANBUL-from which city to take a flight?

Do whatever you wish, you seem to have made up your mind anyway, not sure why you would want a bunch of strangers to validate your decision.

Flying direct is pretty much always a more convenient option rather than taking connections and running the risk of missing them. Most rational people would not choose to fly to Turkey via Moscow, unless there was no other option or unless the price was hugely cheaper than a direct flight.

Enjoy Istanbul. I hear it's a great place to visit.

Yes.

You did use the word stopover. If you'd said transit then my answer would have been no.

Re: ISTANBUL-from which city to take a flight?

Dmarkd I was not looking for an aproval or something like that, then just an advice if someone knows better and cheaper way to come there. I am not flying often so I always use skyscanner but I tought maybe there is some other website which I should check before booking this one. I do not think that waiting in Moscow for 8 hours should be such a big problem (there is no risk of missing this flight either and I do not need a visa because I am just in transit)

I would be happy to leave work earlier but I can not do that so need to find next best option
And yes, thank you Blackbird
