2 small kids + Car + Snow = Great Day Out!

Hi All,

I am living in Zurich side of Switzerland I have a friend staying with us and we have 2 little girls who are both 3.5 yrs old.

Tomorrow we would like to drive somewhere into the mountains and let them play with some snow...

That is it really not much of a requirement.

Drive-in access to some snow.. even better if we can rent a sledge or two.

Where should I head towards...

Cheers

You are about a month too early with your wishes. The snow has not reached the valleys yet, and most places will be closed, until the ski slope operators start working. Look at the TV early Sunday morning, Swiss and Austrian channels, there is usually a programme showing web camera views of all the ski resorts. Look for villages with a height of around 800 to 1'000 meters, see if there is snow.

There is skiing higher up, it is expensive and very dangerous if you cannot ski!

The SBB sell tickets and ski passes to many villages in Switzerland, I am attaching the link, so you have an idea where to look. But unless the ski lifts are running I would not go there, as there will not be enough snow, just wet grass!

Have you thought of (know about?) the Alpamare water center? http://www.alpamare.ch/?lang=en

Re: 2 small kids + Car + Snow = Great Day Out!

I have looked at the Swiss TV this morning for you, and only 2 resorts stand out, Braunwald in Glarus and Stoos in Schwyz.

85 Km http://route.search.ch/?route=zurich+to+braunwald

Braunwald, http://www.braunwald.ch/de/webcams

74 Km http://route.search.ch/?route=zurich+to+stoos

Stoos, http://www.morschach-stoos.ch/en/swi...orschach-stoos

The higher resorts Davos, Zermatt and Schilthorn are open, but expensive to get up there.

Of "all" the choices, Stoos is probably the safest, as it is a village on a plateau with a funicular access.

Most resorts are only open after November, it is the end of the summer season, and not enough snow to attract skiers for the winter season.

It might rain or snow today...

Arrival by car at the Schwyz-Stoos funicular

Re: 2 small kids + Car + Snow = Great Day Out!

So if any one is interested.

We drove to Stechelberg (Schilthornbahn) there is a car park there for about 8chf for 8 hours it was very cheap.

From there you can get a cable car to Mürren (Schilthornbahn) where there was plenty of snow. We have half fare taxes SBB card and this cost 10.80 per adult.

Here is a photo I took of Mürren from the restaurant window that is at the cable car station. We spent 2-3 hours in the snow but with 2 toddlers that was plenty.
